Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear issued several efforts on Tuesday to help residents with the high prices at the pump. Along with freezing the state's gas tax, Beshear also activated price gouging laws and froze the motor vehicle assessment rate scheduled for Jan. 1. He also wrote letters to Congress seeking for a pause on the federal gas tax.

The efforts were made as gas prices have jumped an average of 31 cents nationwide just this week, according to AAA.

“The American people are paying the costs of the war, and families are struggling at the gas pump, grocery store and more — including right here in Kentucky," Beshear said in a press release. “I recognize the pain our families are feeling and I’m taking steps to help because it’s the right thing to do.” www.wsmv.com/2026/05/05/gov-beshear-freezes-kentuc…

Holly Brown's mother was among 16 people who were killed in the Accurate Energetic Systems (AES) plant explosion last October, a day that she described as "something you won't forget." Her husband, Joshua Brown, was let go by the company just eight weeks before the blast because they said they missed too many days taking care of his dying father.

After an investigation cited the company for nearly 100 violations and proposed more than $3.1M in penalties, the company is still operation, prompting the Browns and other families to take legal action.

"How many more people have to die before someone steps in and shuts them down?” Holly Brown said, adding that there's one question she wishes she could ask company ownership to their face. "...How do you go on living knowing 16 people died?" www.wsmv.com/2026/05/03/family-aes-explosion-victi…

Gas prices are climbing across Tennessee, with the state average reaching $4.03 per gallon, $1.26 more than the same day last year — and analysts predict it's going to keep climbing. Rachel Pond drives hundreds of miles a week for work in the medical industry and said the situation is not sustainable.

“When I flip it, twist it, read about it, none of it makes sense," she said. "...Quite frankly, it’s greed. People are dying, gas prices are rising, and I don’t support that." www.wsmv.com/2026/05/04/gas-prices-rising-tennesse…

Holly Brown's life turned upside down on Oct. 10, 2025, when an explosion tore through Building 602 at the Accurate Energetic Systems (AES) plant near Bucksnort, Tennessee, killing all 16 workers inside — including her mother. Beyond the explosion itself, Holly and her husband say they have also been stunned — and angered — by what they describe as the company’s actions.

According to their attorney, AES provided families with a barbecue food truck, a T-shirt featuring their loved one’s image, and a $50 Walmart gift card.

“It’s disgusting,” she said. “A slap in my face. ..“There’s not enough money in the world that you could give me, but to not see them operating will make me feel like she got justice.” www.wsmv.com/2026/05/03/family-aes-explosion-victi…

The man who shot and killed Belmont University freshman Jillian Ludwig in 2023 has pleaded guilty.

On the first day his trial was set to begin, Shaquille Taylor entered a guilty plea to a second-degree murder charge in the case of Ludwig, who was shot and killed by a stray bullet while on a run. He has been sentenced to 38 years in prison — 35 for murder and three years for aggravated assault from a previous case.

“It’s not enough… I still think it should have been life,” Jessica Ludwig said. "...Seeing him, facing him, is bone-chilling to me. He took everything from us." www.wsmv.com/2026/05/04/its-not-enough-man-sentenc…
