Sen. Athan Achonu

On some grassroots impact of Senator Athan Achonu, LP Governorship Candidate In the November 11 Governorship Election.

Permit me to summarise them thus:

1. Educational Sponsorship for youths in local and international international universities. Currently employs over 1,000 persons including youths from Ehime, parts of imo and across the country

2. Support in the fight against insecurity in the State especially in Ehime Mbano. He has donated over 15 Vans to the Nigerian police force.

He contracted Innoson to repair 9 Police Armoured Personel Carriers (APC) with personal funds at very high cost. The plan was to use some of those APC to do help fight insecurity in the state and Okigwe Zone.

3. Setting up of large-scale farm (NUMO FARMS) for food security in the South East.

In line with his Aku Ruo Ulo vision turned a virgin forest with no access road, very steep, dangerous hill, and undulating topography into a morden agricultural farmland (Artificial River with capacity of 1 million Fish per month; Morden Hatchery; Snailery; Green Houses; Laboratory; Cattle Stockade of 5000 capacity, etc) now sorrounded by scenic landscape.

The farm when in full capacity can employ 2,000 persons.

As part of host community development, he built and fully tarred 2.3km access road with one bridge, one box culvert and double sided drainages. Another 6.7km road with 2 bridges are underway.

Many young people are under his employment.

Today, fresh vegetables, fish are harvested daily from the farm.

Many in this group can attest to that.

4. Community development, donated transformers, medical outreaches, contribute to building of churches (Egbeada Catholic Church and the one in Umunumo.)

Also he built the Father's house in His home parish (St. Charles parish Umunumo).

*Many are under his scholarship. Many have travelled abroad through his help. Many now have houses of their own through his kindness and philanthropy*

5. As legislator he ensured that the constituency project to his zone was accounted for and fully delivered. He spent only 6 months but the records are undeniable.

*NATIONAL ASSEMBLY/ SPONSORED BILLS*

In his short stay in the National Assembly (6 Months), Senator Achonu representing Imo North initiated several bills including:


1. Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) (Alteration) Bill 2015 with the singular aim of opening up the electoral system to enable Nigerians in the diaspora to vote in elections in Nigeria.

2. Petroleum Act (Amended) Bill 2015: in line with the quest for domestic self-sufficiency in petroleum refining, this Bill was introduced to licence Nigerians to exploit marginal oil fields to fast track local production, increase production capacity and to stop the oil subsidy regime.

3. Mining and Solid Minerals Act (2007) (Amendment) Bill 2015: this was inspired by the need proactively stop illegal mining, which is a major causes of insecurity and mindless killings in parts of the North, especially the North Western Nigeria.

4. Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Bill 2015: this Bill relates directly to the environment for doing business in Nigeria.

Sen. Athan Achonu

I attended the burial of Late Dame Dorothy Nsonma Ihedioha who was laid to eternal rest yesterday. May her Soul Rest in Perfect Peace.

I express sincere condolences to my brother and friend Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha and his dear family.

I also thank my brothers HE Mr. Peter Obi, our leader, and HE Alex C. Otti, Governor of Abia State who also attended the burial.
