It’s that feeling we all love. Being at home in the outdoors. Rain, icy winds, maybe even some sunshine… it really doesn’t matter. The outdoors brings us life.
This is the feeling behind Berghaus.
From the early days above the shop in the North East of England we’ve come a long way. We’ve over 50 years’ experience creating outdoor gear that is built to last and loved across the world. We know great kit is the difference between enjoying the outdoors and truly loving it.

Set in the picturesque hills of Islay, Chef Thomas Staker cook’s up a mutton flatbread with the help of local sheep farmer Derek, who shares his knowledge of raising native blackface sheep on the Island. The sheep are given ample time to mature in this natural, unrestricted environment, giving them a tender and more exquisite taste.

"The outdoor world is very physical, so all deaf people can do it, the same as hearing people. However, the main barrier is the training."
Episode Two of The Ascension Series focuses on Morag Skelton. A Deaf climber who is currently preparing for her Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor (MCI) assessment, the highest qualification in summer mountaineering. She hopes to create an inclusive environment and communicate with deaf climbers using sign language. For her, the outdoors is not just a place to explore but where she feels most like herself.
If you are part of the deaf community and would like to learn more about how to get into climbing, join us for a dedicated course later in the year.

"For any one of us individually, this would have been impossible, but together we've managed to achieve something that we're all incredibly proud of." - Ed Jackson
In just 11 days, travelling 138 km, the three-man team of Ed, Darren and Niall have officially become the first fully disabled unsupported team to cross Vatnajökull - the largest ice cap in Western Europe.
With Darren self-propelled using poles and a sit ski and Ed and Niall on skis, the team battled torrential rain, facing unimaginably low temperatures and almost losing their tent to 100 kph winds. Despite those challenges, they pulled through, relying on each other to complete the traverse.
The expedition has all been in aid of @millimetres2mountains, aiming to raise £150,000 for the foundation.
As Ed says, "It was a truly magical experience which I hope will change a few preconceptions about disability, as well as inspire others to break down their own boundaries and incorporate a bit more adventure into their lives."
