Many global universities (including under 100 QS Ranking universities from Singapore and Europe) accept GATE scores for Master’s admissions. Especially in Singapore, tuition fees is waived off. While ago, I came across true story of Smarth.

Smarth gave GATE while college, but secured just 557 score that too from General Category. That score is very low to get MTech at Top 1% IITs or PSU Job. But Samarath today working in Germany at a Sports Analytics company. The change happened via his Masters at TUM Germany(currently ranked 22 in World QS Rankings 2026) .

And for Global Masters admission via GATE, he along with GATE score required good BTech profile which includes

- Good CGPA
- Projects
- Internships

The same applies for achieving Top 1% IIT MTech RA programmes.

So if you’re ignoring college academics thinking “GATE alone is enough,” that’ll minimise your opportunities & increases your risk levels. So be ambitious and maximise your BTech profile in parallel with GATE.

A real preparation story.

I met Narendra a while ago—a person with an optimistic and humble personality. He is someone who always starts over when required.

Narendra began his preparation during college. Through his initial attempts, he was able to secure an IIT M.Tech seat, that too in Delhi. But his dream was to work in a PSU.



So, he didn’t hesitate to start all over again for the GATE exam. And this year, after completing 4 years of preparation, he secured a GATE rank of 129 in the CE paper.

Hidden Opportunity to Get IIT Madras MTech Without GATE (With Stipend) – Official



"My professor asked me questions just for formality in my interview."

This is what an MTech student at IIT Madras told me about his admission interview. But the admission process he referred to was not the traditional route.

In my recent video, ‘Proven PSU, IIT Options for All GATE Scores’, I shared the best career options based on different GATE marks. I discussed how IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, and other major IITs offer Sponsored MTech programs (which don’t require GATE). I also talked about Self-Sponsored programs at IIT Hyderabad, IIT Jodhpur, IIT Jammu, IIT Patna, IIT Mandi, and more.

But this method is different — it’s the Project Associate Route, and it’s completely official.

Usually, IIT professors manage significant research grants to execute projects. For these projects, they hire Project Associates. No GATE score is required for selection — you only need to clear the interview.

After working as a Project Associate for 6 months to 1 year, the candidate becomes eligible to apply for M.Tech (Research) programs. And if you’ve worked exceptionally well, that’s when statements like “My professor asked me questions just for formality in my interview” happen.
It’s even present in IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi and all major IITs.

Best Free Resources to Crack GATE 2026.

In 2020, Hitesh Poply, a student from a Tier 3 college, secured GATE AIR 1 without coaching and with a reputed test series. After coming across other similar toppers like Asif Hasan, who also secured GATE AIR 1 from the much larger syllabus stream of ME and a Tier 3 college, without coaching, I understood that with self-study, any student can crack GATE.

But, on the flip side, the reality is that these self-study toppers took two years to crack GATE because learning through reference books is time-consuming.

Recently, however, I've studied the self-study toppers who cracked GATE in a quick timeframe and organized the best FREE GATE Resources (reference books, YouTube playlists, free GATE Maths course, free last 15 years' PYQs and solutions). I then made a YouTube video sharing the key principles in their preparation.

Exposing the Salary of GATE Wallah Faculties ⚡️

Ever since my own GATE preparation days, I had this question in mind: Who earns more—the GATE toppers or the coaching institute faculties?

To find the answer, Recently I travelled to Delhi & Chennai and directly asked an IIT M.Tech topper, a PSU employee, and a PW faculty member. The salary hierarchy I found is truly surprising.
