At Kung Pew Video, the video store never died.
Here you'll find movie reviews and commentary on 80s and 90s martial arts films, cyberpunk sci-fi, direct-to-video action movies, and cult genre oddities that once ruled late-night cable and dusty rental shelves.
From neon-drenched dystopias and android assassins to underground karate tournaments and street-level vigilante justice, these are the movies that raised a generation on chrome, sweat, and sincerity.
New reviews weekly. And the best part? No late fees.

Ever go back and rewatch a movie years later...and realize you were wrong?
That happened to me with Circuitry Man (1990).
I still don't think it's a great movie. The action is weak. The villain's motivations really make no sense.
But I totally underestimated how funny and self-aware it is. Sometimes a micro budget forces filmmakers to get creative instead of throwing money at the screen.
What's a movie you've completely changed your mind about over the years?

Happy Father's Day.
Today seems like a good excuse to point out that Best of the Best 2 contains all of the following:
✅ Underground death matches
✅ Wayne Newton
✅ Revenge-fueled karate bros
✅ Multiple training montages
✅ One of the most positive portrayals of fatherhood you'll find in a 90s action movie
What's your favorite movie dad?
(Happy Father's Day, Alex.)

Team Top Gun or Team Iron Eagle?
Here's my hot take:
Top Gun told kids what they could become.
Iron Eagle told kids they could do it right now.
That's why I loved it as a kid.
I haven't seen it in years, so I'm curious whether it still works or if nostalgia is doing all the heavy lifting.

Ever get the feeling you’ve already seen a movie before… even when you haven’t?
I had that exact feeling watching Crime Zone… and it turns out I might not have been wrong.
Reused footage. Same locations. Even the same nightclub showing up in another movie.
Is this part of some accidental Corman cinematic universe… or just classic low-budget recycling?
📼 New video up now.

The Punisher: One Last Kill dropped last week, and instead of watching that, I decided to watch my favorite screen version of this character.

Before the MCU…Marvel movies got REAL weird.
I revisited Dolph Lundgren’s The Punisher recently, and honestly? This grimy little VHS-era comic book movie has only gotten better with age.
Review incoming tomorrow. 10am. Be there. 📼

I just dropped a review for a movie I somehow completely missed growing up…
And honestly?
I’m glad I did.
There’s something about finding one of these 80s movies now—
like discovering there’s still a little cake left when you thought it was all gone.
If you’re into neon nights, cool cars, and that late-night VHS vibe…
this one’s for you.

Cool car.
Desert nights.
Killer soundtrack.
And honestly?
I think I’m glad I didn’t see it back then.
Drops tomorrow.
