The Government of Ghana is preparing to fully budget for and finance vaccines and critical medicines ahead of the gradual withdrawal of support from the Global Fund by 2029, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has announced.
According to the Minister, the government is taking deliberate steps to ensure that Ghana’s healthcare system remains resilient and self-sustaining even after external support phases out.
Dr. Forson made the remarks during a meeting with the World Health Organization’s Regional Director for Africa, Dr. Mohamed Yakub Janabi, where discussions focused on strengthening Ghana’s health system.

President Mahama has assented to 5 new Bills into law including the Security and Intelligence Agencies Act, 2025, which restructures national security and renames the NIB to BNI; the Growth and Sustainability Levy (Amendment) Act, 2026, reducing the levy on gold mining companies from 3% to 1%; and the University of Engineering and Agricultural Sciences Act, 2025, to establish a new public university in Bunsu.
Also assented to are the Ghana Deposit Protection (Amendment) Act, 2025, and the Education Regulatory Bodies (Amendment) Act, 2026, requiring tertiary institutions to obtain a charter within six years.
