Luxury Ethiopia Tours

We woke up to a heavy thunderstorm and began the 2.5 hour drive through Mago national park to the Mursi tribe villages. The home of the Mursi is one of the most isolated parts of Ethiopia.

The Mursi are one of the last groups in Africa where it is still the norm for women to wear large clay or wooden disks in their lower lips. However the younger generations are moving more towards large disks in their earrings. The disks are a symbol of beauty and confidence.

The Mursi are being forced off their land in Omo National Park, with officials using legal documents to legitimize the takeover without compensation.

As with everyone in the Omo valley, the Mursi love to laugh, joke around and welcome newcomers to their homes. Each face tells the story of their incredible culture.

As with any culture that I photograph, I am constantly aware that I am telling someone else’s story. A story I will never fully understand from an outside perspective. I always try to photograph each person with dignity, power and beauty and I hope these images reflect that.

Yes, it is possible in Congo Brazzaville!
We've waited so many years for this moment, and the day has finally arrived to meet with our closest "cousins". Around Africa, you can see gorillas in Rwanda, Uganda, Congo DRC, etc but the price is prohibited for our budget. The total price costs in those countries, including accommodation, transportation and gorilla trekking trip would range from 1800- 3500$+ per person. So we were looking for a different alternative and we were happy to find one.

Gorillas are the largest living primates, with silverback males weighing up to 400 pounds of pure muscle and gentle giant energy. Despite their intimidating size, they're mostly peaceful vegetarians who spend their days foraging for plants, playing with their young, and napping—living a life many of us secretly envy :)

But here's where the comedy ends: these gentle giants are critically endangered. Habitat loss, poaching, and disease have devastated their populations. Mountain gorillas, for instance, number fewer than 1,100 in the wild. We share 98% of our DNA with them, yet we're destroying the  habitat they need to survive.

The good news? Conservation efforts are working. When protected and given space, gorilla populations can recover. But they need us to care enough to act—supporting conservation organizations, protecting their habitats, and spreading awareness!

These incredible primates have survived for millions of years. It would be a universal embarrassment if the species smart enough to invent the internet was also dumb enough to let them disappear on our watch.

Gorilla trekking in Africa and chimpanzee trekking offer wildlife enthusiasts and adventurers an opportunity to encounter our closest living relatives in their natural habitat.

How to combine chimpanzee and gorilla trekking

Combining these two iconic experiences requires careful planning to ensure logistics and timings work out. The simplest combination would involve visiting Uganda’s Kibale Forest National Park for some chimp trekking, then tracking gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (Uganda) or Volcanoes National Park (Rwanda). This option minimizes travel time and maximizes your wildlife experiences.

This combination also makes it easier to pinpoint the best time to go to Uganda and the best time to go to Rwanda so you can find that sweet spot for the perfect primate expedition.

With that said, this is by no means the only option. You could combine gorillas in Uganda with a classic safari in Kenya and perhaps search for chimps on Rubondo Island – a remote paradise in Tanzania.
