🚨 Vibration & Shock Testing: Troubleshooting Common Issues 🔍💥 #Engineering #Reliability
Vibration and shock testing rarely go 100% smoothly—sooner or later, you’ll encounter challenges that can impact test accuracy, repeatability, and safety. Here are three common issues and how to troubleshoot them effectively:
1️⃣ Loose Fixtures & Poor Coupling 🔩
🔹 If you notice low-frequency control issues, it may be due to fixture decoupling from the shaker table—a common issue when bolts are improperly torqued or when the fixture is not making solid contact with the table.
✅ Prevention Tip: Always double-check the fixture setup, torque values, and connections—whether it's your setup or someone else's. A second set of eyes can prevent costly test failures!
2️⃣ Faulty Accelerometer Cables & Connections 🎛️
🔹 Symptoms: Dead channels, sporadic/noisy signals, or fluctuating data.
🔹 Possible Causes: Loose connections, damaged cables, or wear over time.
✅ Fix: Inspect the connectors, reseat cables, and look for visible damage or fraying. If issues persist, swap the cable to identify if it’s the source of failure.
3️⃣ Defective or Miscalibrated Accelerometers 📡
🔹 A bad accelerometer can lead to poor control (if used in control channels) or incorrect response data (if used for monitoring).
🔹 Warning Signs: Unusual or inconsistent response data that doesn’t align with expectations.
✅ Troubleshooting:
🔄 Swap the accelerometer with a known-good one to isolate the problem.
🛠️ Ensure proper mounting and check for loose adhesives or misalignment.
📊 Compare readings to reference data to spot anomalies.
🚀 Pro Tip: Never assume equipment is working perfectly—regular maintenance, calibrations, and setup checks are essential for accurate and repeatable test results!

▶️Military System's go through some of the most severe environments that any system will ever encounter on planet earth.
➡️ MIL-STD-810H is a military standard guideline for environmental test and reliability engineering considerations and laboratory tests/environmental simulations for military systems and hardware.
➡️ In Part 1 we will cover a brief overview of what MIL-STD-810H is, a history on MIL-STD-810H, and a summary of the content and tests that you will find in MIL-STD-810 (Revision H).
➡️ For the next 5 weeks, we will be covering all MIL-STD-810 tests in detail, including why each test is performed, some test examples and profiles, failure modes to look out for, what systems each test would be applicable to, and test equipment that would be used for each type of test.
➡️ At the completion of this video you will understand what the military standard MIL-STD-810 is used for and how to implement it as a tool for developing an environmental test plan and developing a system for military (And sometimes commercial) applications.

New Video is out!
▶️System or Product Reliability is all about safety and building and protecting your brand equity.
➡️In Reliability Block Diagrams- Designing for Reliability and Determining System Reliability, you will learn how to both design your system for reliability and assess the current reliability of your system based on the reliability of each component and how they are configured in a system as series or parallel circuits.
➡️At the completion of this video you will be able to determine the reliability of any system for any type of application or industry.

Acceleration, its the key component of F=ma that helps us escape earth's atmosphere during a rocket launch, its what adrenaline junkies and race car drivers live for, its the very thing that keeps us planted on planet earth (gravitational acceleration).
Acceleration can do bad things to poorly designed systems, parts, and components, which is why acceleration testing is an important test to qualify and validate systems and parts that are subjected to high levels or acceleration.
In this video, we will learn about the physics and application of acceleration testing and one of the most powerful (And Potentially dangerous if misused) pieces of test equipment that is used in validation testing heavily in Aerospace and Military applications: The Centrifuge.
Centrifuges are used in many different industries and have many different applications including chemistry, medical, aerospace, military, pilot training, and even house hold applications such as a washing machine.
