Why is Michigan the way it is? From ancient lava flows and mountain ranges, to copper mines and groundbreaking experiments, this channel follows my adventures trying to understand the place I call home. You'll find a lot of science, a bit of history, and a good bucket load of enthusiasm. I'm glad you're here!

Thank you again to everyone who's watched or shared the Ruppe Block video, or donated to the project! When I published that video, I promised I would donate any ad revenue the video got from YouTube to Save the Ruppe Block β and I'm excited to share that we raised another $440 to support their efforts! ππ₯³π
As always, thanks for being here, and for taking the time to pay attention to little pockets of history!

I just heard from the Save the Ruppe Block project, and y'all have raised more than $9000 in two days! I'm so proud to be associated with such a cool and generous group of people! Keep it up! πβ¨π Also, I know this is a tough time to be donating to anything, so if you're not able to, no sweat β I'll be donating any ad revenue this video gets from YouTube to the project for the next month, so every view counts.
PS: Here's that donate link if you were considering it: keweenawcf.fcsuite.com/erp/donate/create/fund?funiβ¦

Exciting announcement: This series is now available ad-free on Nebula! π
Nebula is a streaming service that features smart, thoughtful videos, podcasts, and classes. If you like watching this series on YouTube but arenβt thrilled about the ads or waves of recommended content, Nebula is probably up your alley. Itβs available on computers, phones, tablets, and TV, and although it is a paid service, itβs really affordable for a streaming service, starting at $3/month.
These videos will still be uploaded to YouTube at their regular pace, always available for free for anyone who wants to watch them. π But if you want an ad-free, calmer viewing experience, I think youβll like Nebula.
If youβre interested in learning more, use this link to let them know I sent you: go.nebula.tv/alexisdahl. That link also gets you a 40% discount on an annual subscription.

Hello! Recently, a few people have let me know they've received messages from YouTube accounts impersonating me. As a general note, I will never randomly ask you to message me on another platform, set up a private chat or video call, sign up for some magical service, or anything similar. If it feels suspicious, it is.
Stay vigilant out there! π

Sometimes an idea works, and sometimes it doesn't! I spent the last few weeks creating a video about why pasties are so iconic in the Upper Peninsula... only to look back at the final product and realize, "You know what? I could do this better."
I'm going to take another stab at this project, but in the meantime, Version 1 is now available to all patrons on Patreon: www.patreon.com/alexisdahl.
(And if Patreon isn't for you, no sweat. You'll see the better version when it comes out!)

In a recent video about the Soo Locks, I mentioned that an even longer, behind-the-scenes tour video was on the way. If you've been keeping an eye out for it... it is still on the way! π’ I usually release one video per month, but this video is shaping up to be twice as long as a normal project. That means lots of great information, but also that the video will likely hit your screens in August rather than in July.
Thank you for the patience in the meantime, and more from me soon! π

Hey, there! So, if I'm filming outside or out exploring, I'm usually wearing a hat. Since April, I've been testing out embroidered baseball hats with this series' logo on them! I think they're fun. If you also think they're fun, you can now snag one at www.alexisdahl.com/store, and we can wear matching hats together in our respective parts of the globe.
PS: In the second picture, I am absolutely pointing to fossilized dinosaur poop.

In my most recent video**, my husband made a hilarious, off-handed remark about viscosity. That remark is now a mug! It has this on the front, and the viscosity of various things you might put in the mug on the back! If you'd like to join me in celebrating this goofiness, you can find it at www.alexisdahl.com/store. β
