Stop accidentally training your cat like a slot machine. 🎰

**SCENARIO:**
Your cat meows at 5 AM for food.
You're trying to "train" them to stop.

**YOUR CURRENT APPROACH:**
Monday: Ignore ✅
Tuesday: Ignore ✅
Wednesday: Exhausted → Feed them ❌
Thursday: Ignore ✅
Friday: Really persistent → Give in ❌
Saturday: Ignore ✅
Sunday: Ignore ✅

**CONGRATULATIONS.**
You just created the **strongest** reinforcement schedule in behavioral science.

It's called **variable ratio reinforcement**.

It's the psychology behind:
- Slot machines
- Gambling addiction
- Your cat's 45-minute meowing marathons

**Here's what you taught your cat:**
"Sometimes persistence works. Keep trying. Never give up. Eventually they'll crack."

**THE PROBLEM:**
Variable reinforcement creates behavior that's MORE persistent than if you just gave in every time.

**Always giving in = cat learns to ask once**
**Sometimes giving in = cat learns to ask 100 times**

**Your "flexibility" isn't kindness.**
**It's training the exact behavior you're trying to eliminate.**

**THE FIX:**
1. Decide the rule (feed at 7 AM, not before)
2. Enforce it EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
3. Zero exceptions. Ever.
4. For minimum 2-3 weeks.
5. Expect extinction burst (temporary worsening) days 3-7.
6. Do not give in during the burst.

**Consistency through the burst = behavior stops**
**Giving in during the burst = behavior becomes permanent**
