In the presence of PM Narendra Modi and PM of Netherlands, Mr. Rob Jetten, the Leiden University Library restituted the 11th century Chola Copper Plates to the Government of India. PM Modi conveyed thanks to the Government of the Netherlands and Leiden University for restituting the Chola Copper Plates to India.

A set of 21 large plates and 3 small plates, these royal charters contain texts written in Tamil and Sanskrit and highlight the legacy of the Chola dynasty.

The return of Chola-era Copper Plates is yet another step in the homecoming of Indian cultural artefacts from abroad.
