Hello my lovely subscribers 🩷 I’m sorry I’ve not posted in ages… it takes me a while to film enough short ‘random history’ videos before there’s a long enough group of them!
So, while I work on those videos what other videos would you watch? Do you like the mini ‘video essays’ like when I spoke about dragons? Did you hate the weekend vlogs? Do you love the wax tablet videos? Do you fall asleep to me reading you a random book, like the Odyssey?? Please let me know what content you guys enjoy. I’ll do my best to post more in between the random history facts!!
P.S I’m working on some ASMR historical get ready with me style videos… I hope you like them when I finish them!!
Thanks SO much for sticking around while I’ve been quiet, I really appreciate your patience.✨🫶🩷

Cliffords Tower is the largest remaining part of York castle, built by William the Conqueror in about 1087.
By the 1200s I’d had become one of the most important fortresses in the north and so has a huge history.
Infamous because of the mass massacre of the Jewish community here. In March 1190 false rumours spread that King Richard I had ordered the massacre so, the families sought refuge in the tower. The fathers of the families then decided to take their lives rather than waiting to see what the mob outside did to them.
In July 1537 Robert Aske a rebel leader in the Pilgrimage of Grace against King Henry VIII was hanged in chains from the tower.
The tower was a royalist garrison during the English Civil War, surrendered to Parliamentarians in 1651.
In the 1700 the castle became a ruin and was changed into a debtors prison and by 1824 it had been largely hidden by the new walls of the county gaol.
The medieval castle was restored in 1935 after the demolition of the gaol!

Charles Neville and Thomas Percy supported Mary Queen of Scots by leading the rising of the north, against Queen Elizabeth I
After the rebellion failed, Charles fled to the Netherlands and spent the rest of his life in poverty after his estate was forfeited to the crown.

Caught day dreaming about the ancient city by @RomanFound on our tour of Chester…
Originally the land of the Celtic Cornovii tribe, the Romans founded their city of Deva here in the 70s. It was used as a fortress whilst the Romans tried to expand their empire further up north, to suppress those northern barbarians.🙄
You can find out more from our tour video over on YouTube 🫶

Ghost hunting👀
Ettington Park hotel has lots of ghost stories…
Staff members have heard a knock back from a hidden passage they thought was sealed off and seen the ghost of a monk walking outside by the ruins of the Norman Chapel.
Many guests have heard people running in the rooms above them at 3am, especially those staying under the long gallery where a woman was dragged across the room before being pushed out of the window to her death…. We stayed under the long gallery and 3 times in the night heard footsteps above us, and pretty heavy like marching angry footsteps to be honest.
Some have even heard the ghosts of two children said to have died down by the marshy land too I think.
And it wouldn’t be a ghost house without a grey lady right? Well a Victorian lady’s ghost is seen wondering the conservatory entrance too.
A lovely building and history regardless of the ghost stories though, which I’m sure you all know about as you’ll have seen the video I posted back in December right? Right?

Back in October we tried to walk to 3 Cliffs Bay in Swansea but when we got back to the car park realised we hadn’t even walked to the first cliff… anyways… ⛰️
Pennard Castle is close to the main beach, built in the 1100s but now just in ruins, I’m sure it would’ve been cool to see!🤦♀️ Legends say the castle magically appeared one night and then disappeared in one after the lord was rash to the fairies.🧚🏻If you’re there with family or at night and someone is about to die the Gwrach (hag or witch) will appear, so actually I’m glad we didn’t make it there lol

These caves were first descovered in 1912 by two brothers who went in exploring with just a candle and a fishing boat! One cave has a magical huge waterfall and the other had remains of 42 prehistoric humans…. But you’ve heard about them in my shorts this week 😉

I’ve never known if I would rather be Susan or Lucy but I think I sway to Susan. Although if we’re going by the films that’s definitely because of Ben Barnes as Prince Caspian and because she has a bow and arrow rather than a little dagger… so you can call me High Queen Katie the gentle 🏹
Also thank you for the snazzy Christmas jumper @englishheritage it came right on time this morning for my visit to Wrest Park! I loved the house being decorated like Narnia for Christmas!🤩🎄
