Copilot + Python in Excel is a really good but underrated combination for Finance and FP&A teams.

Claude Fable 5 is back.

I spent some time testing it on real FP&A and finance work.

Here are 7 things Claude Fable 5 does surprisingly well:

✅ Variance Analysis
Upload your monthly P&L and ask it to identify the biggest drivers, explain anomalies, and draft management commentary.

✅ Forecasting
Build first-pass forecasts, challenge assumptions, and run scenario analysis in minutes.

✅ Dashboard Creation
Turn Excel files into interactive dashboards with charts, filters, and KPIs.

✅ Financial Commentary
Generate CFO- and board-ready narratives directly from your numbers.

✅ Data Quality Checks
Detect missing values, duplicates, unusual transactions, broken formulas, and inconsistencies before reporting.

✅ Mini Finance Apps
Create budgeting tools, forecasting apps, KPI trackers, reporting portals, and finance utilities with simple prompts.

✅ Python for Finance
Generate and execute Python code for automation, forecasting, reconciliations, visualizations, and advanced financial analysis.

One thing I noticed is that Fable 5 needs fewer back-and-forth prompts than previous models. It tends to understand complex finance tasks earlier and produce more complete outputs on the first attempt.

A few things to know:

• Until July 7, you can use up to 50% of your plan's weekly usage limit on Fable 5.
• If you reach that limit, you can continue using Fable 5 with usage credits.
• Fable 5 consumes usage faster than Opus 4.8 and Sonnet 5, so keep an eye on your remaining quota.
