Junior year of college, I drifted away from church and made a choice I deeply regret. It left me in despair, carrying guilt and anxiety about my future that I couldn't shake.
One day on my way to the library, a stranger invited me to a Bible study. I almost said no, but something told me to go. That night, they taught the parable of the sower, and even though I'd heard it before, this time it hit differently. I finally saw myself clearly: my heart wasn't good soil. It was hardened by guilt and choked with worry.
Over the next few weeks, as I kept showing up to those Bible studies, something began to shift. Slowly, I found peace—not because my circumstances changed, but because I finally understood God's grace.
Recently, my pastor preached on that same parable, and I realized something new: the soil can change. Our hearts aren't fixed. When we let worries pile up and stop tending to our faith, the thorns grow back. But when we return to God's Word, He softens us again.
Following Jesus isn't a sprint where you cross the finish line and you're done. It's choosing to walk with Him every single day, paying attention to what's taking root in your heart, and pulling the weeds before they take over.
Some days I do better than others. But that's the journey, and I'm grateful for His grace every step of the way.
