The statement by Kenneth Okonkwo is a serious one — and it raises heavy questions.
According to him, the attack on Peter Obi in Edo State was not random. He described it as an attempted assassination allegedly linked to government forces or their agents.
He also referenced a prior warning reportedly issued by Governor Monday Okpebholo, who allegedly told Peter Obi not to enter the state without clearance — stating that his security would not be guaranteed otherwise.
If true, this is beyond politics. If false, it is still dangerous rhetoric.
Either way, Nigerians must ask:
• Is political opposition now a security risk?
• When did attending events require “clearance” from a governor?
• Are we sliding back into an era of political intimidation?
Democracy should protect voices — not silence them.
