📦 Reseller Reality Check: Shipping Weird Stuff Is Half the Job 😂

Everybody loves talking about sales, but nobody talks about the puzzle-solving that comes after the item sells.

Take this vintage 1990s X-Kites DragonFly kite, for example. I found it at the bins and probably have less than $2 invested in it. It sold for $55.99, and the buyer paid $33.28 for shipping. Not a bad return for something most people would have walked right past! 🦋

The tricky part? This thing is long, awkward, and doesn't fit neatly into a standard box. Sometimes shipping isn't about weight—it's about figuring out how to package odd-shaped items without spending an hour wrestling cardboard and tape on your living room floor. 😅

One thing newer eBay sellers often don't realize is that shipping can be a profit center when done correctly. I intentionally build a buffer into my shipping charges because eBay doesn't charge final value fees on the entire shipping amount the same way they do the item price. In many cases, the actual shipping cost ends up being significantly less than what the buyer paid, which helps cover packaging materials, time, fuel, unexpected dimensional weight charges, and all the other little costs that come with running a resale business.

This kite will probably cost me less than half of what was collected for shipping, and that's by design. If you're only charging the exact postage amount every time, you may be leaving money on the table.

💡 Reseller Tip: Don't just think about what an item is worth. Think about how you're going to ship it before you list it. Sometimes the weird, oversized, awkward items are where the best profits are hiding.

Tomorrow morning I’m getting up early, grabbing a fresh cup of coffee ☕ and heading to the Denver Bins for a day of thrifting. Honestly, there’s just something really peaceful about being up before most people are awake, watching the sunrise, driving while the world is still quiet, and knowing there’s a whole day of treasure hunting ahead. 🌅
