New Quiz Series (Prototype) published.After a long period of not publishing things because they wouldnt be great quality, i made the call to knock up a prototype series in a quiz format. It doesnt have subtitles checked by me yet, but i wont be able to get to that tonight and dont think its worth holding up publication. Time and tide wait for no man.

I've come back to the channel after a break and I'm going to see about expanding what is featured in the channel.

To make sure I'm heading in the right direction, i wanted to open the floor to subscribers to ask "What would you like to see more of ? "

One thing i've got on my list to do more of is "Dear Diary" videos where each video is a fictional diary entry of someone talking about recent events. It might be someone working at a new job, or someone on a holiday etc.

Im also looking to do some livestreams which are games, but I'm happy to have chats with people and answer any questions people might have. Also related to this, I will be looking into doing some coding and programming related content on the channel.

I will see about more picture dictionary short videos and similar to help expand peoples vocabulary.

Is there anything else you would like me to look into doing for the channel?

Would anyone be interested if i posted connectagram images like the grey one below where the letters of the words are shuffled up and 24 hours after post a video where the words are unscrambled, pronounced and probably used in a sentence ? I would aim to make do it daily and ideally do more than one.

Hi Everyone, i want to write a quick note on some updates and new things that will soon be appearing on the channel and have done some videos as dress rehearsals for people to give feedback on if there's something I can do to make them better.

I wanted to bring more to the channel than the Picture Dictionary videos I'd been doing where a word is said and a relevant image is shown and the word is used in a sentence.

In short, I'll be looking to add videos about Movies, A "Dear Diary" section, a series "Words & Sentences" focusing on pronunciation and vocabulary expansion, Office Hours will stay for people to ask just about anything and give feedback.


Movies:-
I'm going to add Movie recommendations to the channel and have a few up. The latest movie i covered, "Looking for Alibrandi" is Australian and one i highly recommend. Its about a Teenager living in Sydney and she's just starting her last year of High School before she plans to move on to University and study Law. We get to see the year through her eyes. Dear Diary:-
I want a place to be able to write some short stories and upload them. They'll be fictional but realistic and told from different peoples views. The first one I've uploaded is one about someone who works in a supermarket and is sent for a short course to work in a bakery so they can bake loaves of bread and breadrolls for the store to sell. Words & Sentences:-
This is a series where words are shown on a flashcard and then used in a sentence. The sentence should be written to help add some context on the words usage. Each video will have about a dozen words with them split into groups based on how frequently they are likely to be used (Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Yearly, etc).

Office Hours:-
I will try and do a livestream each week where people can drop in and ask questions about just about anything. If there aren't any questions, i'll be doing something i'm happy to be interrupted. If you're not able to tune in live, leave a comment and i should be able to answer any questions then if I can't get to it before.

Games Nights:-
One way to break the monotony is to involve some game and i'll see about giving commentary to it and playing along with people tuned in. Let me know if you have any requests. Crawl, a role playing game where players explore a dungeon to find treasure is going to be shortlisted.

Software Recommendations:-
I'm a fan of Free and Open Source Software and run Linux on my computer. Quite a bit of software and games are available for free and I've made a few videos in this playlist:- www.youtube.com/playlist?list...

I will be adding livestreaming back into the channel in the form of "Office Hours", where i'll be looking to go live twice a week and be available to answer questions. I have penned in Wednesday nights and Saturday nights for this and I just did a livestream "dress rehearsal" and it showed i still had to get in a bit more practice and some things werent quite ready yet.

In Office Hours, i'll be looking to:-
- announce and touch on recently added videos to the channel
- post links to recent news stories of interest. This will be done early on so people could see the story, watch and then ask any questions about them
- Talk about some things like idioms or specific subjects ( rules cricket, AFL, NRL etc) or other events like Sydney to Hobart or things like what a sweep is for the Melbourne cup.

and if theres spare time, i might fill in with a game, but i'll be happy to be interrupted by people if they have questions.

I will also be looking to go back and adding timestamps to the videos and making sure the subtitles are right after each one.

In the dress rehersal, i touched on Connectagram where the game gives scrambled words and we have to unjumble them. I also showed KTurtle which in hindsight is a bit too detailed to start with, but i still think is a good program to start learning programming on and will see about making specific videos for that. I also did a quick demo of Pioneers, which is a implementation of "Settlers of Catan" where players have to build empires in co-operation/competition with others. Its a bit complicated and i'll see about making an introductory video for it.

Wednesday (~9:30am UTC) Wordsearches (find words hidden in a grid)
Thursday (~9:30am UTC) Tanglet (make as many words as possible from connected randomly selected letters in a 4x4 or 5x5 square)
Friday (~9:30am UTC) a new round of flashcards for EWF104. Please let me know if you have any requests or want me to talk about anything.

Earlier today I published another free PDF i think people will find useful. I can't make a video right now, but wanted to do a post to get the word out hot off the presses.

A free 4,500+ wordsearch PDF is available at readalongtolearnenglish.wordpress.com/ebooks/word-… and it has been released under a creative commons licence so you're able to share it with other people.

The document should be a useful reference for people tracking their expanding vocabulary at the same time presenting a bit of a challenge.

There are plans to do future wordsearches based on subjects like rooms in a house, meals, colours etc. If you have any requests or feeback please leave a comment.

More picture dictionary videos are next on my todo list.

I wanted to make a post about what I had planned for the future of the channel and want to ask people for any feedback on ideas. I had been working on adding more videos to the Picture Dictionary playlist as a way for people to learn a few words that can be used around the house before moving onto other things.

I made a core vocabulary of 140 words and split it into modules of 20 words each, which match up with a free downloadable PDF workbook readalongtolearnenglish.wordpress.com/2023/03/08/r…

With that as a basis i thought of a few ways to add to this :-

1) Create a video summary of news reports of current events and link to video reports. This would be in the format of approximately a weekly news of selected stories and a livestream after to answer any questions.

2) Longer format videos going through day to day activities like a trip to the shops, cooking, road trip etc.

3) Word search livestreams as a way to speak a large number of words in a short time. I'd be happy to take requests on words and themes. I could also mix it up with Tanglet and Connectagram.

4) Free chat livestreams as a drop in session for people to ask questions. If you're not available at the time of day, i'll respond to comments. This will likely have me doing something to keep busy

5) Movie recommendations and possible discussion. I thought of making short listenable presentations on movies i recommend people watch and give an plot summary. And later possibly make an extended discussion which would be able to contain spoilers.

6) Publish a words of the week video for the pronunciation videos done recently. This would replace the supercuts videos i had been making. This would be in a different format of a short introduction, going through each word once and then a link to a playlist of the words if people wanted to see specific videos.

7) Open source software reviews/ playthroughs and tech talks. Making more videos of free software available on a Raspberry Pi which is a modern day equivalent of the Commodore 64. It has a wide variety of free software that would help people be able to learn at their own pace. An example is a game called Pingus which is based on the popular game Lemmings where the player has to direct the lemmings to do actions and navigate the group through an obstacle course .

8) Videos about idioms and sayings. Common phrases like "backing someone to the hilt", "The penny drops" and "go against the grain" might not be obvious.
