Someone recently mentioned I never have any friends or family in my videos. Here's a rule I follow - I DO NOT film my friends, family, or romantic partners.
This helps me to maintain a healthy balance and keep my private life private. It's always felt invasive and unnatural to me to film my friends and family and post it to the internet. So...yeah.
I haven't posted a single pic of a boyfriend, friend, or family member in 16 years of being on YouTube! If I ever get married, you will not hear about it or see a pic. My nephew was just born, and I won't be posting a pic of him (ever, if I can help it). My ex-partner of 17 years was never shown in any way.
As a business teacher, I always advise my clients to ONLY EVER POST things you're willing to have judged and talked about. I simply don't see our family members and friends having a place in that equation.
Nobody needs to "see" your romantic partners, or even know if you have one! The internet doesn't deserve the pic of your wedding. Strangers on the internet don't deserve to see your newborn baby.
Online business is beautiful, but boundaries are still required if you want to maintain a healthy work-life balance. We don't owe the internet our entire lives. Save most of your life for yourself.
Just heard a manifestation coach out in these streets say "You manifested ALL the things you see in your life. The good AND the bad. Everything that has happened to you...YOU manifested it." This is dangerous rhetoric, and just plain WRONG. If you've ever heard stuff like this, here's what I want you to know:
1. I'm deeply sorry for the tragedies that have happened throughout your life. Human beings endure turmoil & heartache during this experience. Not one of us will go through life unscathed.
2. The tragedies that have happened to you are not your fault. You did not manifest them.
3. There are things that have happened to you that should not have happened. Full stop.
4. There is an eternal source of love that is always with you...and is using every seeming tragedy in your life for your benefit. You are being made stronger, wiser, more compassionate.
5. You are never alone, never without protection, and always exactly where you need to be. There are no wrong moves you could ever make. You don't ever need to worry.
And you don't ever need to feel a sense of "guilt" about "manifesting" the tragedies in your life. Because you DIDN'T!
All is unfolding in your life in divine and perfect timing, and in concert with the Divine.
YouTube just raised prices for the premium subscription. This is a chance to talk about ADS on your channel. Here’s how I approach ads:
1. I never allow mid-rolls on my videos. Never have and never will.
As a creator and business owner, it’s important that we think carefully about allowing our life’s work to serve as a giant billboard for random companies.
Do you REALLY want a giant commercial in the middle of your video?
There’s no right or wrong here. I just don’t want anything to do with mid-rolls.
This advice obviously doesn’t apply to “influencers”without businesses, whose sole revenue is Adsense. My channel is for business owners.
2. I DO allow ads on my videos because YouTube would put them there anyway. Allowing them, and then saying NO to mid rolls gives me more agency.
3. I DO NOT take sponsorships or brand deals. Not one in 16 years. Nothing wrong with it if you do. I just always want the best experience for my viewers, and don’t want to scatter my energy and focus.
Business is about LONG TERM thinking, and brand deals just don’t fit in with long term fulfillment and growth in my business.
This long term thinking has earned me 10x more than anything a brand deal or sponsorship could have.
4. Make sure to get email subscribers as your post your videos. Price hikes like this cause people to leave the platform. This serves as a reminder that YouTube is STILL rented land.
Plus there may come a time when YouTube becomes a platform you don’t WANT to post to for any number of reasons. So, diversify your promotional platforms (start a podcast and email newsletter) and always build your emails list! That’s land YOU OWN.
This world would have you spending years of your life picking yourself apart. We don't need to listen to hour long podcasts from plastic surgeons giving soliloquies about under eye skin.
We don't need video essays about jowls.
If I never see another video with a lip injection story time from a celebrity or influencer, I will die happy.
There's a power we have, and this world wants us to forget it. This world wants you focused on anything other than your power. This world wants you in a perpetual state of "fixing" things that aren't broken.
We can abandon the vapid sea of plastic sold to women every day....
We can choose to run free, with frizzy hair, and under eye wrinkles, and refuse to give even a minute to considering our "jowls" or whatever stupid phrase conjured up by the plastic surgeons...
Confession. Most people in real life ignore me. For a long time, this bothered me. Then I realized something important 👉 People Tell Me Stuff...and I do what 99% of people won't....I LISTEN. This Has Made Me Lots of Money.
If you've ever felt ignored in this world, today's podcast will guide you to the secret mountaintop of "The Quiet & Rich Solopreneur"...where you will discover your secret superpowers, and STOP worrying about people who will NEVER understand you, and start being heard by people who will BUY YOUR STUFF. Hugs!
You probably shouldn’t get on Substack. Here’s why:
1. Substack is basically a glorified blog service, that allows you to charge for your articles…which is a fine idea if your primary aim is to be a writer of articles.
BUT
2. If you’re a BUSINESS OWNER wanting to MAKE GREAT MONEY, you really need a proper email service provider, so you can nurture the email list you have.
SUBSTACK CAN’T
🚫 Keep track of your customers, and who purchased what. This is important info.
🚫Segment your audience. For example, if you have a sale on a product, you don’t want to send that email to customers who purchased full price, ya dig?
🚫Send specific emails to specific customers. If someone downloads a certain freebie, you can’t automatically send them a follow up email on that specific freebie, and invite them to purchase your offerings.
🚫a long list of other very important profit driving things
INSTEAD OF SUBSTACK
Use Kit.com instead of Substack. (Not sponsored)
With kit.com, or literally any email service provider nowadays, you can actually RUN and GROW your business.
✅ Kit can do EVERYTHING Substack can do, plus it’s an actual Email Service Provider.
✅ you can still charge people to read your newsletter if you want with kit, just like Substack.
✅ You’re not wasting your time churning out articles to help make Substack money (they take a major cut)
✅ Instead of hanging around the water cooler with all the cool kids fighting for $5 Substack subscriptions, you’ll be building your business with a proper email strategy.
Substack is nothing more than another time wasting trend, lining the pockets of Silicon Valley tech bros who are using YOUR time and YOUR articles to grow THEIR business.
Some practical tips to keep yourself safe...as an Online Business Owner
1. When you get emails like "I noticed your videos could use xyz...I could edit them for you and get you millions of views!"...Send to spam. Good editors don't have time to be in your inbox doing cold outreach.
2. Use Incogni or any other data deletion service (not sponsored). This keeps your private data and contact info OFF of the internet. A surprising number of people *nut jobs* think it's ok to come to your house when you're on YouTube...and getting your address off of the internet prevents this. incogni.com/
3. Don't accept unprompted invites to podcasts requiring you to join via a Facebook link. This is a very popular phishing scam right now.
5. Tell your Virtual Assistant to 💫 Never Click Any Links. Even from popular websites 💫 unless they are 100% it's a valid link they've directly requested. Once again, to avoid phishing scams.

Yesterday I stumbled upon the work of a man named Stewart Pearce. He was the voice coach for Princess Diana. His voice sounds like the human embodiment of warm honey. He now teaches about all kinds of esoteric things, and you should check him out....
Anyway, as I listened to him lay out his teachings, I was THRILLED to hear that I've been doing exactly what he talks about for YEARS.
Here's the thing though....I didn't even REALIZE I'd been doing it (because I've been at this for 15 years). So I rushed to my office to film this video, and share how to speak in front of a camera, with a method kind of similar to what Princess Diana used 😎
A beautiful viewer named @Romero_Meyer asked a great question. 👉 "It seems that everyone doing really well financially on YT ends up in the niche of teaching others how to succeed on YT. Do you feel you could be as financially successful if you were still in your old niches like the cooking/fitness? "
I was so moved by the question, and all the layers to my answer, I decided to make a podcast. The short answer is YES, I could succeed in any niche that genuinely served others (that I was an ACTUAL expert in)....and so can you. The long answer, including the grown up talk and warnings about scam artists all over this platform are in my podcast below. Thanks for the question, Romero.
