* PIP: A fast-talking, overly enthusiastic red squirrel.
* GRUMPS: An old, perpetually tired blue jay.
[SCENE START]
EXT. OLD OAK TREE - DAY
The sun shines brightly on a massive oak tree. PIP is hanging upside down from a branch, wearing a tiny, makeshift superhero cape made from a maple leaf.
PIP
(Shouting)
Fear not, citizens of the forest! The Acorn Avenger is here to protect your winter stashes!
GRUMPS is trying to nap on a branch just below. He opens one eye, looking thoroughly unamused.
GRUMPS
Pip, for the last time, it’s July. Nobody even has a winter stash yet.
Pip drops from the branch, landing perfectly in front of Grumps.
PIP
Exactly! That’s when the acorn thieves strike. When we least expect it. When we don't even have acorns! It’s the perfect crime!
GRUMPS
(Sighs, rubbing his temples with a wing)
You can’t steal something that doesn't exist. Now, please, I was having a lovely dream about a quiet, squirrel-free meadow.
Pip gasps dramatically, grabbing his own cheeks.
PIP
A squirrel-free meadow? Grumps, you need a sidekick! Someone to keep you on your toes!
Pip starts zipping around Grumps in tight circles, becoming a blur of red fur.
GRUMPS
(Dizzy)
Stop! Stop! Okay, fine. You can be my sidekick. But your first official mission is to stand perfectly still for exactly two hours.
Pip stops dead in his tracks, saluting stiffly.
PIP
Mission accepted! The Acorn Avenger never fails!
Grumps closes his eyes, nestling back into his feathers with a small smile appearing on his beak.
GRUMPS
(Muttering)
Best superhero ever.
