Not So Much A Channel, More A Way Of Life

Doomed Poets, Drunken Hellraisers, Saturday Night Sinners and Sunday Morning Saints. 100 years of popular music, one unsung hero at a time.

Not So Much A Channel, More A Way Of Life

‘April is the cruellest month, breeding lilacs out of the dead land, mixing memory and desire, stirring dull roots with spring rain.’ Eliot was right. Five and a Half hours in the Accident and Emergency Ward yesterday afternoon/Evening certainly brought a pretty disastrous April to a fitting end for me. Such are the wonders of socialized medicine!

Can you believe it has been 10 years to the day we lost him? Tempus Fugit, indeed.

Billy Strayhorn was one of the great unsung heroes of the Great American Songbook and a man who stood alongside perhaps it, and American popular music's foremost genius, Duke Ellington, in creating timeless, sophisticated and fascinating music. Not So Much A Channel, More A Way Of Life

Hi Guys. I don't know why I am posting this, but I'm in a very glum and confused space right now and sometimes writing helps. I though maybe I wouldn't even post, but look at that cute cartoon. Couldn't let that go to waste. As some eagled eyed observers have noticed some statistical shenanigans on my latest video - the fact the like counts for both the video and the little cartoon that announced it kept going up and up, but the view count started going backwards. 11% backwards. In other words the channel was behaving the way it my old channel from October to December last year when it finally drove me dippy. So I put on my Columbo coat and did some digging. When you start to investigate IT incidents, the first question you ask isn't "have you tried turning it off and on again". That's what we call the ID-10t routine. The first question you ask is "what have you changed? Post hoc ergo propter hoc - those Romans had a word for everything. And the thing that was changed - res quae mutata est (I knew binge watching I Claudius would pay off one day!) was going quid hoc facit? to a newly appeared button on my You Tube Studio page and I, not really knowing what I was doing, turned on monetization for my channel. So obviously some things got tinkered with during YT's review. Now, correlatio non est causatio, but that's not the real problem - I was never going to make any money any because it all goes to copyright claims anyway. And I guess I can turn it off if I wish to. But I don't like the fact it gives You Tube a seeming leverage over my content - get rid of the music or we wont pay you. I don't mind the ad revenue going to the artists, I love them, that's why I make videos on them and good luck and God bless for whatever money they make from it. Anyway, I haven't signed up for the thing that gives your data to advertisers (Although I cant guarantee YT wont do it anyway), I have blocked mid-roll ads and I wont allow VC videos to carry any ads (Although I cant guarantee YT wont do it anyway. Look at the picture. They are literally Satan!). IF you see your experience of watching the channel IN ANY WAY diminished by more ads or surveys or other intrusions, please let me know. And if you are creator who is on that threshold of cashing in (or copping out), be prepared for what goes down when you do. Thanks for putting up with me, I love you all madly.

It's all about uncovering alien artefacts this week and my friends and I try to solve the Foul Quince 1st Anniversary Mystery Challenge, here https://youtu.be/e4ORX7tWtgc?si=NhNem.... It's a scavenger hunt created to celebrate one year in the VC for your good friend and neighbour, but one with a bit of a twist. 12 items, from ridiculously simple and getting progressively trickier (at least I thought they were - could be a different story for you!) where imaginative substitutions are encouraged and celebrated! I'd love to see folks try their hand at it - here are the tunes to get you in the mood www.youtube.com/playlist?list... Have fun!

The Foul Quince content farm is in overdrive this week - this time with the response to Midge's Vinyl Gems' Rock and roll headwear thread. But my video is overshadowed by personal crisis - check it out here - https://youtu.be/DYR9scmnwaQ, check out the fantastic playlist here - www.youtube.com/playlist?list... and most importantly, check out Midge's video here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UoHi1... and wish him a happy VC birthday!

Not So Much A Channel, More A Way Of Life

Hi All. I am very nervous about doing this, but - as next week sees the First Anniversary of my new channel, an I'm so immensely grateful to everyone for getting me back on my feet again, I have decided to issue my first ever VC challenge - but I am really nervous that no one will do it, so I am giving a big heads up well in advance to keep an eye out for it. I think it is a pretty challenging but fun exercise that will really test out how well people know their vinyl collections! Is that too ridiculously needy of me? Anyway, next Monday, do watch out and do join in, and spread the word, if you can! Thanks!
