General history, alternate history, history through games, and history for fellow teachers. All of this and more. My goal is to provide entertaining topics and videos, covering areas of history that may not be as popular. To make videos that can appeal to history fans and to students. To teachers to use in the classroom. And everywhere in between.

Well, for the first time in a year, Google Earth has updated its shot of Alexandria. So, it's time for an update on the former HMS Whimbrel:

As you can see, not much has changed as of April this year. She's still sitting in that same area and in the same position. I can't see any signs of scrapping whatsoever, so it seems the Egyptians are still...somewhat maintaining her. Whether that means there's any chance of her becoming a museum...

I can't say. I hardly have access to the Egyptian government or military. But, at least as of April 2026, Whimbrel is hanging on.

(sidenote so I don't have to make two posts: Tomorrow's video is going to be a LONG one.)

The Cold War is often overlooked, at least by naval history YouTubers. I’ve covered a few, here and there, myself. Because I think it’s an interesting period.

If *you’re* interested in Cold War warships, please stop by today’s video. Ark Royal is, in a lot of ways, the Cold War Royal Navy in a nutshell.

If you’re interested in more obscure topics, today’s video is for you. Not many people are aware that the Coast Guard- in its earliest days -operated destroyers.

Surplus navy warships, through and through. Right down to the main battery.

It’s a fascinating look at ‘making do with what you have’. I think so, anyway.

If you’ve ever wondered where the phrase ‘sweepers, man your brooms’ came from…today’s video is for you. HMS Indefatigable was the first British carrier to be hit by a kamikaze. In addition to serving basically non-stop for the last two years of the war.

Do stop by, we’ve had pretty little engagement this time.

In today’s video, we’re looking at one of the more *interesting* experimental warships. A ship from the end of WW1, when no one knew what aircraft carriers would be. And a ship that had several different overhauls after that.

If you’re interested in weird and wacky ships, do stop by to look at HMS Vindictive.

As noted, today is something of an experiment in a mid-week upload. If you haven’t already, do stop by. I know it’s not my usual upload day.

(And it’s a surprisingly interesting ship. Wasn’t expecting this to be as long as it was going into things. Why you should never judge a book by its cover.

Or a ship by her wiki page, as the case may be.)

Since Juneau is doing…decently well by my current standards, this week will be an experiment. The weekday video will go up tomorrow, not today. To see how that works.

(Mostly so I don’t have four days- Wednesday through Sunday -with no video. We’ll see how this goes.)

I’m not normally one for witch hunts. However, I have to put my foot down on this one. If you can find the time, please report this channel to YouTube to get it removed. I’ve done my part, now I’m asking for help:

(They’re literally stealing my content wholesale. Videos, descriptions, everything.)

I can only assume that the algorithm isn’t pushing today’s video at all. Not even to subscribers. But, if you’re interested in British cruisers? Here we have an overlooked one:

I can’t say I’m terribly surprised at the performance, being a submarine and all. Still, if you’re interested in that aspect of the Pacific War, do stop by today’s video:
