World Composting

I will be showing you what I have been doing to create vermicompost and reduce my waste output to landfills. I also sell some worms online to try and pay for the bins and products I've purchased. If you have any questions or would like to see something specific please let me know!

I'm hoping to do some small updates with pictures and information. Please follow me on those channels as well as here!

🐛 Quick Tip: Match Your Worm to Your Climate

Not all composting worms are created equal:

🔴 Red Wigglers — 55–77°F (indoor bins, most climates)
🟤 European Nightcrawlers — 40–65°F (cooler temps, outdoor beds)
🟡 African Nightcrawlers — 65–80°F (warmer regions, fast processors)

Putting the wrong worm in the wrong temp = slow digestion or worms escaping. Know your zone before you buy!

What's the #1 thing that stopped you from composting when you first tried?

Was it smell, fruit flies, not knowing where to start, or something else entirely?

Drop it in the comments — I'm putting together a "Composting Mistakes Everyone Makes" video and want to cover what actually matters to you. 👇

60 hours in and we are at 90°F! 🔥

This VermiBag Mini setup is exceeding my expectations. If you missed how I mixed this bedding and food waste to get these results, check out the full video here: https://youtu.be/4RAWlDsxdzE

• Stay tuned—if we hit 100°F, I'll post another update!

🪱 IS YOUR WORM BIN READY FOR "BLACK GOLD" PRODUCTION?

I just posted a new deep-dive on setting up the Urban Worm Bag! If you’ve been on the fence about starting a worm bin, this is the perfect time to jump in.

In this video, I’m sharing a few critical steps that often get overlooked, including:

- THE "FALSE BOTTOM" TRICK: Why this is essential for keeping your worms safe and the system clean.
- THE 1-WEEK RULE: Why you should never add worms the same day you set up your bedding.

- FEEDING CAUTION: The #1 mistake beginners make that can actually harm a new colony.

Whether you use an Urban Worm Bag, a Vermibag, or a DIY tote, these setup principles will help your worms acclimate faster and start composting sooner.

The African Nightcrawlers have officially moved! 🏠🪱

I’ve just launched a brand-new playlist: "DIY Tote Systems & Advanced ANC Management."

In the first video, I’m showing you how to build a 14-gallon double-tote system from scratch. We’re moving away from the 10-gallon grow bags to a more structured, "bottom-breathing" design. I’m also testing out a "Thermal Heater" trick using active pre-compost and biochar to keep these tropical worms warm in my basement.

Check out the full build and the worm migration here: https://youtu.be/kLiHqQ-kWm8

How are you keeping your worms warm this season? Let me know in the comments!

I’m restarting the Urban Worm Bag with a 50/50 Red Wiggler & ENC mix. For those of you processing high volumes of kitchen scraps, which species is your "powerhouse" performer? 🪱🚛

7 days into the pre-compost "reactor" test and the results are a mix of success and a big lesson learned. The breakdown speed is incredible, but the odor caught me off guard because I made one critical mistake: I forgot the Biochar.

Biochar should be a game-changer for odor control and holding onto those valuable nutrients, and skipping it turned this into a slightly "stinky" success.

I want to hear from you: > What is your "emergency fix" when a compost pile or worm bin starts to get a little funky?

1️⃣ Add more dry shredded cardboard?
2️⃣ Mix in a heavy layer of Biochar?
3️⃣ Increase the airflow/turn the pile?
4️⃣ Something else? (Tell me in the comments!)

I'm curious if anyone else has tried a "reactor" style setup like this and how you handled the aeration. Let's troubleshoot below! 👇

Welcome to our new World Composting Community! 🪱

I’ve opened up this space so we can go beyond the comment section. Whether you’re a long-time vermicomposter or just starting your first bin, this is the place to share your progress and learn from each other.

What you can do here:

Show off your bins: Post photos of your setups, your worm harvests, or even your DIY "reactors".

Troubleshoot together: Got a weird smell or a pest issue? Post a photo and let the community help you out.

Behind-the-scenes: I’ll be sharing early updates on my experiments—like the current "hot pre-compost" test—before the full videos go live.

A few ground rules:

Be helpful and respectful: We’re all here to learn.

Stay on topic: Keep posts focused on composting, soil health, and sustainable gardening.

No spam: Please don’t drop links to unrelated products or services.

To get us started, introduce yourself! How many bins are you currently running? 👇
