Just a young adult birder (29 years old) and animation/anime (particularly, Studio Ghibli) fan with Asperger's syndrome here. My other interests are wolves and Michael Jackson, though those interests have been superseded by my obsessions with birds, Studio Ghibli films, and the growth of my own personal political/philosophical beliefs: a libertarian who feels isolated and disillusioned from most major political parties and movements, and even from within my own ideology at times. I would like to make videos on these latter subjects in the future, but in the meantime, I make videos about birds or other interesting wildlife or sights that I see. I am also a big Philadelphia Eagles fan. 🦅🏈

A week ago from today, I saw Joe Hisaishi conduct two musical pieces from my favorite “Castle In The Sky”. Seeing him conduct the evocative musical score of such an underrated gem of a film just in time for the film’s 40th anniversary later this year was a dream come true for me. A Shorts video of mine featuring Hisaishi conducting the opening musical piece of the film, “The Girl Who Fell From The Sky” can be seen in the link provided above.

To finish the last day of Autism Awareness/Acceptance Month on a high note, here is a video of Madden Orlovsky, a young man on the autism spectrum who is the son of ESPN commentator, Dan Orlovsky. He is an artist who drew the logos for all 32 NFL teams and an Eagles fan, and even got a swag bag from Eagles WR Devonta Smith, who has a family member who is autistic. To anyone who is an Eagles fan, is autistic or knows someone who is, an artist, or all of the above, this is a heartwarming watch.

An interesting take on Studio Ghibli and some of their characters mirroring traits of autism spectrum disorder. The films highlighted are “Kiki’s Delivery Service”, “Princess Mononoke”, “Whisper Of The Heart”, “Howl’s Moving Castle”, and “The Tale Of The Princess Kaguya”, and there are potential spoilers to those who haven’t seen those films. If you are interested in seeing any of these films, I highly suggest to watch them and come back to this video. To any Ghibli fans out there, are there any characters that you suspect or headcanon as being autistic? Personally, I headcanon the characters Nausicaa (“Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind”), Sophie (“Howl’s Moving Castle”), Sheeta (“Castle In The Sky”, Jiro Horikoshi from “The Wind Rises” and Therru (“Tales From Earthsea”) as being on the spectrum.

Happy 75th birthday to Ghibli composer, Joe Hisaishi! Regarded as the John Williams of anime, Hisaishi has composed the musical scores of all but one of director Hayao Miyazaki’s movies, including but not limited to “Howl’s Moving Castle” (the track, “Merry-Go-Round Of Life” from the movie is so acclaimed that it received record downloads on Spotify in recent years), “Spirited Away”, “Princess Mononoke”, “My Neighor Totoro”, etc., as well as for Isao Takahata’s moving animated fable, “The Tale Of The Princess Kaguya”. Seeing Joe Hisaishi perform earlier this year was such a treasure, and I hope to see him perform again. 🙂
