Tristan da Cunha is the world’s most remote inhabited island! 🌍
Located in the South Atlantic Ocean, this volcanic island is part of a British Overseas Territory and sits over 2,400 km (1,500 miles) from the nearest inhabited land — Saint Helena — and over 2,800 km from South Africa.
🚢 There are no airports, and the only way to reach the island is by a 6 to 10-day boat journey from Cape Town, typically on a fishing vessel or supply ship. Travel is infrequent and highly weather-dependent.
👨👩👧👦 Population: Just around 250 residents, all living in a single village called Edinburgh of the Seven Seas.
🗺️ Life on the island is extremely self-sustained. There's no hotel, limited internet, and most of the community relies on farming, fishing, and postal deliveries for essentials.
💡 Bonus Fact: Due to its isolation, Tristan da Cunha has no COVID-19 cases and is often cited as one of the safest pandemic-free zones in the world.
