🪴 The Golden Rule of Potting Mix: One Size Does NOT Fit All!
Our professional base recipe of Coco Coir and Perlite is clean, lightweight, and packed with oxygen. But to make your plants truly thrive, you need to tweak that mix for their specific roots.
Here is how I customize it for three indoor favorites:
1. Pothos (The Fast Grower) 🟢
• Root Need: Quick drainage but consistent, mild moisture.
• The Tweak: Keep the coco coir higher (around 70% Coco + 30% Perlite). This keeps those thirsty trailing roots perfectly hydrated without suffocating them.
2. Aglaonema (The Low-Light Survivor) 🌸
• Root Need: Highly sensitive to soggy soil and prone to root rot.
• The Tweak: Increase the aeration (60% Coco + 40% Perlite). This opens up vital air channels around the roots, preventing those dreaded yellow leaves.
3. Fiddle Leaf Fig (The Statement Tree) ✨
• Root Need: Maximum oxygen movement through the root zone to prevent moisture traps.
• The Tweak: Use a 65% Coco + 35% Perlite ratio, but make sure you use coarse-grade (large particle) perlite. The chunky material ensures excellent airflow for these sensitive trees.
📌 Pro-Tip: For all three, mix in 1 level teaspoon of slow-release fertilizer per liter of substrate for months of effortless nutrition!

This week’s video is all about girdling and how it can activate dormant buds below the cut. 🌱
By interrupting the downward flow of carbohydrates and hormones through the phloem, girdling changes the plant’s internal signaling system — often stimulating hidden buds to break dormancy and start growing.
In this video, I explain:
• What girdling actually does inside the fiddle leaf and rubber plant
• Why dormant buds become active
• Practical applications in horticulture and plant management
If you’re interested in plant physiology, propagation, or advanced pruning techniques, this one is worth watching.

Your Ficus lyrata is hiding a secret.
Cut the top, and something unexpected happens, growth shifts, silent buds awaken, and new branches begin to rise. It’s all controlled by a hidden hormone (Auxin), and once you break its dominance, the plant transforms.
In just a few weeks, a single stem becomes something completely different. Try it, and watch the change unfold.
Next video will reveal more about this process, subscribe and turn on notifications so you don’t miss next week’s video.
