Even when they’ve received information from their parents, it is often surface-level and not enough to guide them through real-life cycle experiences.

Parenting in Fear

A while ago, I listened to Cosmo Maduka, the owner of Coscharis Motors, share how he started riding bikes at the age of 11. Yet, when his own son—at 16—wanted to ride a bike, he refused.

This is the reality for many parents today.

A parent who started cooking at 8, travelled alone at 11, spent holidays with relatives at 12, and walked to school at 9 will often deny their much older child the same experiences.

The common excuse? "Times have changed." And with the alarming stories we read on the Internet daily, fear takes over.

But should we, because times have changed, deny our children the opportunity to grow?

The truth is, even in our time, dangers existed—
k!dnapp!ngs, s£×ual abuse, and more. Yet, we were allowed to navigate life, learn, and build resilience.

Emotions are contagious.
When we parent from a place of fear, our children absorb that fear. They grow up anxious, hesitant, and conditioned to play it safe.

This fear-based mindset can lead them into unhealthy relationships, toxic workplaces, and a life of mere survival rather than fulfillment—just like many of us.

So, the real question is: Are we protecting our children, or are we imprisoning them with our fears?
