When you stretch, tiny units in your muscles called sarcomeres begin to lengthen. At first, your body resists because muscle spindles trigger a protective reflex that causes the muscle to contract.

If you hold the stretch calmly for 2 to 5 minutes, your nervous system adapts, reducing the reflex and allowing the muscle to relax.

This process is called stretch tolerance and is how lasting flexibility develops. Flexibility gains happen through time, breath, and patience - not by force.

At YOGABODY, my team and I teach functional flexibility focused on restoring the basic range of motion (bROM) so you can enjoy pain-free movement, an active lifestyle, healthy joints, and improved quality of life.
