🚀 Shanghai Science and Technology Museum: Arrive Before Opening Time!

After its 2026 renovation, the museum feels completely transformed: modern, interactive, and full of energy. With 10 themed zones, hundreds of exhibits, and one important rule — most things are meant to be touched and explored! ✨

⏰ My top tip:

The museum is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and is closed on Mondays.

I highly recommend arriving around 8:40–8:50 AM and being among the first visitors inside. Before 10 AM, it’s much quieter, making it easier to explore the exhibits and cover several zones without rushing. Later in the morning, school groups arrive and queues start to form.

🗺 My favorite areas

✈️ Aviation Zone — featuring flight simulators and VR experiences. It feels more like an attraction than a traditional museum.

⚙️ Physics & Engineering Zone — the kind of place where you want to press every button you see. This is not a museum where you simply look at exhibits; you’re encouraged to interact with them.

🌿 Tropical Rainforest Conservatory — a surprisingly peaceful indoor oasis filled with lush plants, perfect for taking a short break.

Overall, this is definitely not a “quiet walk through museum halls” kind of place. It’s lively, hands-on, and incredibly engaging.

🍦 A fun little bonus

The café sells Earth-shaped ice cream 🌍 — delicious and very photogenic!

📍 Good to know

🎟 It’s best to book tickets in advance via the official WeChat account or Trip.com, especially on weekends. However, tickets are usually available at the entrance as well. Discounts are offered for students and schoolchildren.

📍 Address: 2000 Century Avenue, Pudong, Shanghai
🚇 Metro: Line 2, Science & Technology Museum Station, Exit 7

⏳ I would allow at least 3–4 hours for a visit, and easily half a day if you’re visiting with children. Some activities and shows may require separate reservations on the day of your visit.

If you’re looking for a quiet museum, this probably isn’t it 🙂

But if you enjoy interactive exhibits, technology, and that feeling of “wow, I want to try that too,” it’s absolutely worth a visit 🚀

🌳 1000 Trees is one of Shanghai’s most unusual buildings

It’s hard to confuse this complex with anything else. Its defining feature is the hundreds of trees and shrubs planted directly on the building’s terraces. The project was designed by British architect Thomas Heatherwick, who wanted to create a space where modern architecture and nature are closely connected.

📍 Located along Suzhou Creek, the complex features shops, cafés, restaurants, exhibition spaces, and outdoor terraces. Even if you’re not planning to shop, it’s worth visiting for the architecture alone and the unique views.

📸 The best photos can be taken from the opposite bank of the creek, where you can capture the entire building in one frame. It’s also worth heading up to the upper levels of the complex for beautiful views of the river and the surrounding neighborhood.

I genuinely liked 1000 Trees. In person, it looks even more impressive than in photos. The contrast between the concrete structure, the greenery, and Shanghai’s surrounding skyscrapers is especially striking.

However, I chose the wrong time to visit. There was a fair taking place during my visit, so the area was extremely crowded. Because of the crowds, it was difficult to explore the complex properly and appreciate all its details.

If I visited again, I would definitely choose an early morning visit. I think that’s the best time to truly enjoy the atmosphere, take your time exploring, and capture beautiful photos without too many people in the background. #1000Trees #ShanghaiArchitecture #ShanghaiTravel #VisitShanghai #ChinaTravel TravelChina ArchitectureLovers UrbanArchitecture TravelInspiration HiddenGemsChina ShanghaiLife ExploreChina CityArchitecture TravelPhotography AsiaTravel

Here's a slightly shortened version without losing the key details:

First thing to try in Shanghai 🚄✨ Maglev at 431 km/h

If you're visiting Shanghai, don't miss the Maglev — the magnetic levitation train that hits 431 km/h. It feels smooth, but everything outside blurs past 👀

Quick facts:
• Pudong Airport → Longyang Road Station 📍
• Ride time: ~7–8 min ⏱️
• One-way ticket: ~50 RMB 💴
• Operating hours: ~06:45–21:40 🕘
• Max speed not guaranteed — depends on time of day ⚡️

The station is easy to find at the airport — just follow "Maglev" signs 🧭. Buying tickets is simple (machines or counter) 🇨🇳. There's a small photo spot in front of the station 📸

Feels more like an attraction than transport. Very Shanghai: fast, futuristic, slightly unreal 🌃
