তিনি বলেন: সম্প্রতি গণমাধ্যমে আমার একটি বক্তব্য বেশ আলোচনা তৈরি করেছে। বিষয়টি সবার কাছে স্পষ্ট করতে চাই—এই মুহূর্তে আমার সম্পূর্ণ মনোযোগ শুধুই ক্রিকেটে।
ক্যারিয়ারের এই শেষ পর্যায়ে এসে বাংলাদেশ জাতীয় দলের হয়ে সর্বোচ্চ উজাড় করে খেলতে চাই। সুযোগ পেলে দেশকে কিছু দারুণ পারফরম্যান্স উপহার দেওয়াই আমার লক্ষ্য।
একটি দেশের উন্নয়নের জন্য রাজনীতি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। তবে ক্রিকেট ক্যারিয়ার শেষ করার পর দেশের জন্য কাজ করার ইচ্ছা থাকলেও, সেটা শুধুমাত্র রাজনীতির মাধ্যমেই হবে—এমনটি নয়। রাজনীতির বাইরে থেকেও দেশের জন্য কাজ করা সম্ভব, যদিও রাজনীতির মাধ্যমে কাজগুলো অনেক বেশি সহজ হয়।
শেষে তিনি জানান, লাল-সবুজের জার্সি গায়ে মুখে হাসি নিয়েই নিজের ক্রিকেট ক্যারিয়ার শেষ করতে চান এবং এজন্য দেশবাসীর দোয়া ও ভালোবাসা কামনা করেছেন।
