Fluid Art with Erika

Hi! My name is Erika Tenney, and I am your instructor at Paint Pour Academy. I create all of my videos and projects from my in-home studio in Tucson, Arizona (I am a native Tucson Artist.) I have taught myself numerous art techniques with acrylic paint and resin.

My grandmother was a professional oil painting artist who instilled in me a love for art. She taught my sister and me drawing classes when we were children. When my kids were little, I started scrapbooking, and I fell in love with mixed-media art. In 2017, I discovered acrylic pouring, and I loved how unpredictable this technique was and how enjoyable it was to experiment with the paint. I was hooked!

🎨 New Video! 🎨

This resin bloom coaster was my 5th bloom experiment, although I'm posting the videos a little backwards! 😄

For this project I used Let's Resin Tabletop Resin along with pink and blue Pinata Alcohol Inks. One thing I noticed right away was how differently this resin behaved compared to the NicPro resin I used in my first bloom. I was able to start adding inks immediately without waiting for the resin to thicken.

The bloom isn't perfect, but every project teaches me something new, and I think the pink and blue combination turned out pretty amazing. 💙🩷

🌸 Sometimes projects don't go as planned... and that's exactly what happened with these Resin Blooms! 😅

In this project, I made more than a few mistakes:
❌ Too much alcohol ink
❌ Let the resin sit too long
❌ Didn't check the temperature
❌ Used a heat gun to speed up curing

The result? Well... I tried. 🤷‍♀️

Join me as I share what went wrong, what I learned, and why even imperfect projects can teach us something valuable.

Have you ever finished a project and thought, "Well... I tried!"? Tell me about it in the comments! 🎨✨

❤️ Thank You ❤️

Well, my People's Artist journey has come to an end.

While I didn't make the Top 5, I did finish in 7th place in my group, and honestly, I think that's pretty awesome.

I am so grateful for everyone who voted, shared my posts, sent encouraging messages, and supported me along the way.

This experience reminded me how lucky I am to be part of such an amazing community of friends, family, students, and fellow artists.

While this chapter is ending, the creative journey continues. I have new projects, new art, and new adventures ahead, and I'm excited to see where they lead.

Thank you for cheering me on. It truly means more than you know. ❤️

Most people see Paint Pour Academy as a website full of classes, tutorials, and colorful artwork.

What they don’t always see is that it started with a simple love of creating.

Years ago, I discovered paint pouring and completely fell in love with the process. There was something magical about watching colors move, blend, and create something unexpected. I spent countless hours learning, experimenting, making mistakes, and trying again.

As I learned, people began asking questions.

“How did you do that?”

“What pouring medium did you use?”

“Can you teach me?”

Before long, I realized my favorite part wasn’t just making art—it was helping other people discover that they could make art too.

That’s how Paint Pour Academy was born.

Today, I’ve had the privilege of helping artists from around the world learn paint pouring and resin art. Seeing someone create a piece they’re proud of for the very first time never gets old.

This Top 5 journey isn’t just about me. It’s about everyone who has followed along, taken a class, watched a video, shared a post, or encouraged me along the way.

If you’ve been part of my Paint Pour Academy journey, thank you for being here. ❤️

If you’d like to help me continue this journey in The People’s Artist competition, you can vote once every 24 hours here:

Every vote, share, and kind word means more than you know.

I’m incredibly grateful for every vote, share, and word of encouragement. Let’s see how far we can go together. 🎨💕

Thank you for being part of this story. ❤️

This bloom pour turned into SUCH a wild mix of color and detail! 😍✨

I love how the center bloom opened up with all of those layered cells while the edges stretched into flowing ribbons of turquoise, green, yellow, black, and soft aqua tones. Every section of this canvas has something different happening.

Bloom techniques always feel a little magical to me because the paint keeps evolving as it moves across the canvas. You never fully know what’s going to appear until it starts opening up. 😊

New ocean-inspired paint pouring video is now live! 🌊💙

This piece turned into such a beautiful mix of aqua, navy, turquoise, and soft seafoam colors. The cells and flowing movement throughout the canvas really gave it an underwater wave feeling as the paint stretched and settled.

I always love creating ocean-style pours because no matter how many times I try them, every single one develops differently. 😊

New paint pouring video is now live! ✨

This piece turned into such a beautiful mix of soft peach, blush pink, cream, and warm coppery tones. The flowing movement and cell patterns throughout the canvas gave it such a dreamy desert-inspired feel. 🌵☀️

I always love watching how these colors interact and transform as the paint settles. No two pours ever turn out exactly the same, and that’s part of the magic of fluid art. 😊

I love how airy and delicate this bloom pour turned out! ✨💚

This piece has such an interesting contrast between the soft white negative space and the bold bursts of turquoise, green, aqua, yellow, and black cells spreading out from the center. It almost feels floral and underwater at the same time. 😊

Bloom pours are always exciting because the details continue developing while the paint stretches and spins across the canvas. Every layer reveals something new.
