Dennis was a brother to me, a best friend, the perfect coworker, a man you could joke and cry with. He was like a fully functioning eco-system all to himself. All I had to do was engineer a movie around him, pull the rip cord, and he'd go for days, weeks, months, years. He absolutely loved what he did. He loved the genre. All he wanted was to make movies with his friends.
He fought for years to do this, to reach that dream. All of us settled down, took salaried jobs, kissed the ring, but he never did. He would not give up.
And then, earlier this week, Dennis went to sleep and never woke up. I can't describe how painful this is. All the conversations I've had with others are filled with mourning, even with those who barely knew him. Because even if you never met Dennis Ruel in person, you knew exactly who Dennis Ruel really was. He was the most genuine person I've ever known.
It hurts to say this, but God rest your soul, Dennis. You, more than anybody else, have earned it.
Is anyone skilled at setting up Discord servers? I'm starting one, where I and other indie filmmakers and stunt performers can give live feedback to your indie projects. Let me know if you'd be interested in helping.
My book If These Fists Could Talk is now available in both ebook and paperback edition, and so far it's already #2 in action and adventure filmmaking and #2 in "structuralist philosophy" (which you'll understand after reading it!), please grab a copy and spread the word! I'll do a live stream soon to discuss it with you all!
Thanks again!
