🎄 Our Final Christmas Animal: Cranberry the Turkey 🎄

This is Cranberry 🦃💛
Lovingly (and jokingly!) named by Dr Scott Miller, who visited us earlier this year to help some of our animals.

Cranberry came to us with problems in her leg and foot. With Dr Scott’s help, she was fitted with a cast and splint to gently guide her foot back into the right position — giving her the chance to heal, strengthen and stand comfortably again.

And stand she does 💪✨
Strong, proud, and full of personality.

Cranberry completely stole our hearts. She’s curious, confident, full of character — and a daily reminder that turkeys are so much more than a Christmas dinner.

They feel.
They bond.
They have personalities.
They deserve care, kindness and a life worth living.

🎄 Christmas Sponsorship Spotlight: Bettina 🎄

This is Bettina — a horse many of you will recognise from our recent posts 💛

She came to us heartbreakingly skinny, abandoned, and deeply nervous. A frightened soul who had clearly learned that the world wasn’t always kind. At first, we were relieved to see her start putting on weight so quickly… but soon we realised something wasn’t right.

The weight gain was rapid enough that we had to ask the question no one expects — could she be pregnant?
She even began showing pregnancy symptoms, which meant vet visits, long waits, tests, and the stress of not knowing while we tried to source an ultrasound and specialist care.

Thankfully, Bettina is not pregnant.
But during this time, we uncovered more of her past — and it’s a sad one.

She was loved once.
But then she was lost, passed through different hands, and struggled through multiple homes before eventually finding her way to us.

Although she gained weight quickly, it wasn’t healthy weight. She wasn’t thriving. Her body — and her trust — needed careful, patient rebuilding. That has meant multiple tests, tailored nutrition, slow changes, and a lot of listening to what Bettina is telling us in her own quiet way.

Progress has been very slow, but it is happening 🌱
She’s moving in the right direction — physically and emotionally — one careful step at a time.

This Christmas, Bettina could really use some extra love and support.

🎄 Christmas Animal Response: Little Ratatouille 🎄

You may have already spotted this tiny soul… this is Ratatouille, our little Christmas fighter 🐾✨

Ratatouille arrived with damage to his eyes. One eye had already been removed before he came to us, and the other is only half an eye due to damage — meaning he can’t see. We had weeks of worry, tests and waiting to understand what had happened, and it appears it all occurred in utero. We may never fully know why.

What we do know is this:
Ratatouille has absolutely no idea that he’s different.

He’s pure love. He spends his days cuddling, nuzzling into people’s necks, soaking up affection and giving it right back. He doesn’t see the world with his eyes — he feels it with his heart ❤️

He still has a long recovery ahead, and he could really use some extra love and support this Christmas. If ever there was a little soul who deserves to feel wrapped in kindness, it’s him.

✨🐔 THE UGLY CHICKEN 🐔✨

Meet one of the most unforgettable characters at the sanctuary… our beloved Ugly Chicken. 💛😂
He arrived when we rescued a large group of chickens and turkeys, and at first we thought his missing feathers were from fighting and would grow back. But they didn’t — and somehow the nickname stuck! Not in a mean way, but because it just fits his quirky, hilarious personality.

Despite his look, he’s become an absolute favourite here. He’s funny, confident, full of charm and honestly… kind of adorable in his own unique way. ✨

But his appearance does tell a story — he clearly had a rough start to end up looking like this. And like all our animals, he deserves the reminder that we never judge a book by its cover.

✨🐰 BONNIE 🐰✨

Today we’re shining a little light on one of our smallest residents — sweet Bonnie. 💛
She arrived with her best friend Clyde, but sadly Clyde had serious health issues and was on palliative care from the moment he came to us. He passed away recently, and poor Bonnie has been feeling his absence every day. 💔

She’s slowly finding comfort with the other bunnies… and she’s become a favourite with the children, too. But you can still see she misses her little soulmate.

This Christmas, Bonnie could really use some extra love, attention and sponsorship to help her feel safe and supported as she settles into her new life. She’s tiny, cuddly, gentle — and right now, a little bit sad. 🎄🐰❤️

✨🎄 Christmas Cheer — Meet Aika 🎄✨

Is it a giant fluffy rug… or the sweetest Newfoundland dog you’ll ever meet?
Aika arrived at the sanctuary overweight, unwell, and far from the life she deserved. Bought as a puppy from mainland Spain, her family hadn’t realised just how much specialised care a dog like her needs — especially on a hot island. ❤️‍🩹

She spent most of her years living on a rooftop, already 8 years old by the time she came to us, tired, heavy, and with almost no stamina. But everything changed once she reached the sanctuary. With careful rehab, daily brushing and cool soaks in the horse baths, Aika slowly transformed. She’s now 20 kilos lighter, full of energy, and completely in love with Edo — the only one who can coax her into running and playing like a puppy again. 🐾💛

Aika’s joy is a reminder that every animal deserves a life where their needs come first. This Christmas, we want to make sure her newfound happiness continues — with all the care, treatments and support she still relies on.

✨🎄 Christmas Cheer — Daisy & Maisy 🎄✨

These two sweet girls arrived at the sanctuary in 2021 as tiny, frightened babies — and heartbreakingly, they were destined to become food, just like so many pigs born into a world that offers them no freedom, no space to grow, and no chance to simply enjoy life. ❤️‍🩹
But Daisy and Maisy were among the lucky few. With time, patience and kindness, they discovered what real living feels like. Now they spend their days splashing in the mud, bouncing around, enjoying tasty snacks and greeting visitors with their bright, curious snouts. 🐷💛🐷

🎄✨ Today we’re introducing one of the tiniest members of the Finca family… ✨🎄

Meet Mr. Moostafa.
He arrived at the sanctuary over a year ago, nervous and unsure of the world. Slowly, with patience and gentle hands, our volunteers gained his trust — and now he’s a fully-fledged, deeply loved member of the office team. 🐹💛

Even though he’s small, he has a huge personality… and an even bigger fan club.
But this year, Mr. Moostafa could really use a little extra Christmas love. He’s getting older, and we want to make sure the tiniest, often overlooked animals at the sanctuary feel just as cared for as the bigger ones.

Today’s Christmas story is all about Gaia the goat 🐐💛

Gaia was living freely on a patch of land near a kind woman’s home. This lovely neighbour did everything she could to care for her, even though she couldn’t keep her. Gaia spent her days roaming happily… until new neighbours moved in.

They repeatedly tried to catch her, and during one of those attempts her leg was broken — left to heal on its own, and sadly it healed incorrectly. 💔

When the neighbours told the woman that if they caught Gaia again they would kill and eat her, she couldn’t bear the thought. She had grown attached to this sweet little goat and just wanted her to be safe. So she brought Gaia to us.

Now she’s finally somewhere she is loved, protected, and seen for the gentle soul she is. 🌿

But Gaia needs a little extra Christmas magic this year. Her leg has caused long-term issues, and we’re doing everything we can to support her recovery with specialist care and ongoing vet treatment.

Meet Lublub, our original peacock 💙✨

He was the very first peacock to arrive here — a stunning boy who found himself in the wrong place and was causing trouble with the other peacocks there. When he came to us, he was completely on his own.

Since then, we’ve welcomed more peacocks to join him, and now we have a whole beautiful group… but it all started with Lublub, named by little Iggy. 💛

He’s also the reason we’re building a much bigger (and very expensive!) enclosure to give them all the space they need.
