For more than 30 years, Walker’s Point Center for the Arts has been a cultural staple of the Walker’s Point neighborhood and a powerful advocate for underrepresented artists in Milwaukee and beyond. As one of the city’s oldest and most beloved community art spaces, WPCA is renowned for providing high-caliber, accessible arts experiences for all — from bold exhibitions to youth arts programs. Like the neighborhood around it, WPCA is now entering a new phase of growth, one in which we believe the arts play an essential role in shaping responsible redevelopment and a shared, equitable vision for the future.
Walker's Point Center for the Arts
We are here. We see you. We honor you.
For 37 years, Walker’s Point Center for the Arts has been an anchor of connection and pride for our neighborhood. We are a welcoming, inclusive space where youth, BIPOC and LGBTQ folks come together to celebrate our diversity and creativity. Our strength lies in the connections we’ve built and the support we offer each other. As we continue to navigate these uncertain times, let’s remember the power of these connections, rely on them, and extend our hearts to those who may be feeling lost and hopeless.
Community is a verb that Walker’s Point Center for the Arts embodies. We will continue to affirm the importance of your voice as we work together to co-create a brighter future.
Our commitment to Milwaukee is unwavering. We aren’t going anywhere.
In solidarity,
WPCA staff and board

Walker's Point Center for the Arts
“Light peeking in from the blinds — the shadows are adorning my apartment floor. I recount the
vastness of my family’s shared experience. How do I bring this forward and archive these
moments for the world to acknowledge while protecting us? In the corner of my room, I hear
low-humming growls from my dogs — canvases flooded washing away moments only we know
— as I reflect on the transient nature of the past, I embrace the fractures and unfinished nature
that my material carries. The iron-wrought bars on my windows transform into my hair and wrap
around me — soft and quick movements. I worry as I experience the supernatural — dogs and hair growing — I look to the cross.
My art practice is fueled by a longing to honor my family and ancestors who have sacrificed for
me. My current work is a culmination of our dreams, longings, memories, and shared
experiences. In using our shared narratives of intergenerational grief, trauma, and
marginalization, I am recording and archiving our past and present with works on paper,
paintings, objects, and writings.
I dream that my memories are stored in the palms of my hands and the soles of my feet.
Memories are tethered to the points of my fingers, and as I draw and make objects these tethers
are sewn into my work. They are shiny, transparent, scaly, and wet. My hands are imbued with
memory—as I transfer marks to paper, I am drawing with memories. I laugh at myself when I
think this way because how would I tell my grandfather who detasseled corn / picked strawberries / harvested peppers that my hands work not as mere tools but as vessels of reconstructed memories?
He would understand.”

WPCA's Art Education space recently got some upgrades! Our deepest appreciation to the Apprentices at the Carpenters Training Institute for installing our new classroom floors and fun carpeting in our staircases. Huge shout out to Rebecca K, AFL-CIO Community Service Liaison at the Waukesha County Labor Council for her continued support to help us improve our building to better serve our community.
