Part -2

If you haven’t read the previous post, please read the part one before reading this to make sure the continuity of the story.

That same day night we met Dr. Clark and had the difficult talk I had a sudden onset of labour pain, with in hours it became very strong and very frequent contractions,we did managed to reach the local hospital quickly. Since the dilation of the cervix almost happened 5cm by that time. One of the baby was is breech position and another one was in transverse position and there was no fluid for the babies to rotate or move. Due to the known multiple risk factors. I was posted for emergency c-section. At the extreme painful moment, I did not think a second time to gave consent. Then everything was very fast, i had emergency blood tests, checks,iv antibiotics, steroids injections,i v fluids, cannula. Emergency transfer to operation room.
In was in middle extreme pain , they gave be spinal anaesthesia, and sedative and magnesium sulphate iv injection. We will never forget that experience, at the very moment the injection happened i had head to foot burning sensation on each and every hair follicles, and severe nausea, some body offered me a bowl, but i couldn’t vomit , I was in very euphoric state because of the medication.

The gynaecologist, pinched in my abdomen with forceps to check my pain sensitivity, i could felt was poking it some metal, and could feel the incision making and stretching of the abdomen wall ,but didn’t felt any pain, then have took the babies quickly and I over heard that sac is empty no fluid. I didn’t hear any sound of my babies they, and nobody showed me the babies. I know that was not their priority at that point of time. Ag the moment they transferred me to the bed from the operating table i saw one tiny hand was raising and the doctors were trying to stabilise her airway.

I have been back at the room with in 3-4 hours,i was do tired, I didn’t ask my husband did you saw the babies,he replied he did so them with my son and are very tiny babies on incubators with ventilator support, because of the tiredness I went to sleep. The nurse provided a small cot and bedding for my son at my bedside.

When I wake up from the sleep they offered me breakfast and once was fully able move my legs around took my catheter out and helped me for a change. They took me to the neonatal unit to see my babies, i saw them and touch their body- the nurse told me they are going to be transferred to NICU soon ,the transport is on the way they will take them one by one and twin one marah will be transferred first since she had pneumothorax, needs more attention. I sow them - was not sure that will they able to recover or could survive, the medics were working harder to give the best possible result. I became tearful because of the uncertainty. I completely surrender my self and my babies in front of my Jesus. Last night before transferring to OT, i prayer that lord be with you ,you please take by babies from my womb.

Part-1

Marah and Mariyam (pregnancy)

This was a spontaneous pregnancy, 12weeks pregnancy scanning revealed that we were having twin babies. We were very excited and emotional at the same moment due the same reason. Since it was a Monochorionic diamniotic (MCDA) pregnancy ,were the identical twins who share a single placenta but have separate amniotic sacs,I was having ultrasound scan fortnightly. Initial 22 weeks were uneventful, but on the next scan it was identified that the amniotic fluid around the babies started to become diminished. We were become very anxious about, this because it did happen to the previous pregnancy, which had been advised for termination and that happened at 27 weeks.

Due to these history doctors were vigilant and was referred to tertiary centres for fetal medicine department after the 26 week scan. After the scan doctors reported these babies are very likely to have kidney failure, and the scans were showed increased abdominal circumference and no signs of bladder , moderate oligo hydroamniosis. I was very upset and decided to keep the babies and trusted lord .They told us to come back after a month for review.

Spiritual women inside me wake up and I have started to make prayers to have this babies born healthy. We went for the next appointment at UCLH London, this time we were awaited by a team of specialist doctors and the news that this a case possible end stage kidney disease and this babies can die in womb or may die immediately after the birth due to the poor lung maturity and other complications. They have explained about the poor possibility of life saving dialysis of newborn babies born under weight and lifetime challenges of the a family who have a child with kidney failure. They gave me two choices either you can keep these babies and they can’t predict what to expect ,or you can terminate pregnancy. They also advised to do a genetic testing to confirm the exact cause. Due to the high risk of procedure and expected long waiting of the results we don’t opt for a antenatal testing. Since, we had decided to keep these babies,we let them know our wishes.

They referred us back to the local hospital for a safe confinement, since it was a small hospital without neonatal icu , send us to the nearest big hospital with fetal medicine department.
On the next appointment, the doctors were very concerned about babies due to severely diminished fluid around the babies. I saw sympathy on every eyes. The doctor can’t measure nothing other than heart beats of the babies due to the lack of fluid. Those doctors send us to a neonatal specialist doctor for counselling, and to explain possible treatments they could provide if these children born alive,
And send us home with another appointment in 2weeks time.

We were very emotional and depressed at one side and on another side I believed god can do miracles for us. Days passed,my babies were gave me the signs of life and said to me “mom we are safe here”even the doctors can’t say will survive the pregnancy. One midnight i have decided to be with lord, i have repent and seek forgiveness for everything i have been through even knowingly or unknowingly. I did ask god to name my babies at that night i have named my babies with “Marah”- means bitterness,”Mariyam”- means love . These two names derived from the bible from the exodus where mosses split the rock to provide water to Israelites, which was bitter in taste, but which turn into sweet after mosses put a branch of a tree as god told him do so.

We born and brought up in India, the Christian traditions we were followed was Syrian orthodox tradition (which is very small community in India)in our liturgy,we have song which symbolises mother mary( mother of Jesus-Mariyam ) with the Marah in the old testament. Since ,my babies are identical, choose these names for my babies.
Marah was first born and Mariyam was second born. On the next appointment, doctors were hopeless and told us to see the same neonatal specialist, this time dr Clark was very much hopeless since the fluid around the babies almost vanished. He told me, since these babies don’t have no fluid around,it would be very unlikely to save this babies ,at that situation they would be able do palliative care for our babies. Then they sent us home with a plan to meet in one month time to plan c -section due to poor possibilities of normal labour and the expected complications.
