Here I like to connect theory, philosophy and a much wider picture of the world to watches. Going beyond lug to lug measurements and movement accuracy. If that sounds good do make sure to subscribe and check out the rest of my channel for more!

Doug's Watches

Here I was thinking I was done making videos on this AP x Swatch fiasco.....

Well that Longines video popped off.....

My most heated comment section to date, but still likes are about 80% so I don't think I've gone completely mad but have hit upon something a little divisive, and so could have signposted my thesis a little more obviously.

So here goes:

The new Longines Hydroconquest is a great watch and exists in the Swiss watch world with not that much competition, but if you already have dive watches that you love, you can let this Submarineresque diver pass you buy without any FOMO.

Let me know below.....

Question time! The new Longines Hydroconquest: What do you think? Is the hype justified? Have you bought one? Were you disappointed at the AD?

I'm curious and want to hear :)

Well I gave my two cents on this thing (and Tudor), a long day getting these two out. Keep an eye out for a full Watches and Wonders run down this weekend. But until then, tell me how wrong (or right) I am!

Doug's Watches

Big news and big changes!!!!

Thanks to everyone who voted and engaged with the post I put out yesterday. I've been doing some soul searching with the channel of late and the direction I want to go in and it's been a massive help.

As some of you have said it's my channel yes, but it wouldn't be anything without my viewers so I want you guys to see what I'm doing and the direction I'm planning to head in.

Starting the year I tried pushing more videos out than ever before, with support of an excellent videographer this has been a bit easier. But I've lost my way a tad, trying to balance listicles, reviews, more thoughtful content and the channel has grown but I'm losing what makes me, me a little.

Short term fine, long term as a force for good in the watch world - perhaps not.

So I've thrown out my rather complicated fortnightly upload schedule and gone with something much simpler - Wednesday and Sunday.

To get a loaner watch to film with more often than not, I've got to agree to a review - so these won't disappear altogether (and I've got a few in the pipeline the next few weeks with embargo dates I've got to hit). However I want to focus more so on those think pieces, mildly hot takes, and sharing with you all, bits of my collecting journey and some more from my collection.

But in this Wednesday slot expect a review with some Doug zest, maybe a video on something from my collection, perhaps a listicle based on a rabbit hole I went down - but more often than not something shot from my sofa and a little less scripted.

Sunday always my trademark video essays, the weirder the better, sometimes they do well other times they flop. I've just got to live with that.

I know how I work best. For me to work on something succesfully I need a framework, and I want this channel to be more than a watch news or review channel - but instead something that people who are both interested in watches and aren't can watch.

I think (hope) this plan provides this but enough creative freedom to have those great ideas while also you guys are able to peak behind the curtain a little.

Over the next few weeks we're touching on everything from AI watch design (coming this Sunday), to marketing resistance, Fordism and the surveillance state. The big ideas are still there, let's just get Watches and Wonders out the way first.

Thanks all for watching and for reading this long post.

BIG FAVOUR: I've been uploading 2 to 3 times a week now for a few weeks, and I'm looking at switching things up after Watches and Wonders to keep the channel work load manageable alongside work and my projects..

I used to religiously do Wednesday and Sunday videos, but now Monday and Friday do quite well - so lets put it to you all - how many times a week do you want to see some Doug's Watches and when are you on YouTube?
