Today, we want to take a moment to honor all the fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, and father figures who have made a difference in our lives. Thank you for your hard work, sacrifice, wisdom, and the values you've passed down to the next generation.

So much of what we do with horses, mules, farming, and family traditions comes from lessons learned from the men who came before us. Whether it was teaching us how to work hard, treat people right, drive a team, mend a fence, or simply enjoy the simple things in life, those lessons are priceless.

To all the dads spending the day with family, working in the barn, out in the field, or enjoying a ride down the road with a good horse or mule, we salute you.

Folks, I want to introduce you to **Munsick**.

This 3-year-old Blue Roan John Mule is currently in training here at Haste Draft Horses and Mules, and I'll be honest with you—he's one of the nicest young mules I've had in a long time.

I've said it for years: **You can buy color, you can buy size, and you can buy pedigree, but you can't buy brains and mentality.**

Munsick has both.

His color will catch your eye, but it's what's between his ears that makes him special. He's got a head full of sense, a willing attitude, and the kind of mentality that everybody is looking for but very few ever find.

We're putting the finishing touches on his riding training right now, and believe me, the wait is worth it. We're taking our time and doing him right.

I think this mule has a BIG future.

My question for all of you:

Fire and Ice: A Story of Faith, Survival, and the Value of a Great Draft Horse Team

One of the greatest rewards of what we do at Haste Draft Horses & Mules is hearing from customers long after they have purchased a team. Sometimes those emails simply tell us how much they enjoy their horses. Other times, they remind us just how important a dependable team can be.

Recently, we received an email from Bill and Judy Parmerter, owners of Fire and Ice. Their story is one that deserves to be shared.

In Judy's own words:

"Good morning Steve and Henry ..on April 21st we were driving Fire and Ice for a leisurely ride with our neighbor who we have been helping him with his horse that he just had broke . After taking him home to help him unharness his horse we headed home. On our way home we were hit from behind at about 60 mph.. which smashed the wagon and forced the horses onto our lap.. we were extremely proud of fire and ice with all the excitement those horses never bolted or attempted to takeoff.. my husband, Bill somehow was able to quickly get off the wagon and get in front of the horses just to talk to them to calm them down. now mind you due to the impact my husband had an astronomical laceration to his left Calf has 13 broken ribs, a broken foot, broken bones in his knee. and somehow God gave him the strength to do all of that. As he realized I was unconscious and pinned under the wagon . God had people close by to help cause the accident happened in front of their house .. friends were able to get me out from under the wagon due to Fire and Ice behaving . I was air lifted to a trauma hospital.. with 6 broken ribs . Broke elbow on right arm broken wrist on left arm . Fractured vertebrae and 3 brain bleeds .. they took my husband thank god to the same hospital immediately taken into surgery.. we were at the trauma hospital for 3 1/2 weeks and most for the time in the same room .. we are home and getting better every day .. thank god the only injury to our horses was a small 4 inch cut to Fires back legs nothing serious more like a scratch.. I really felt that God was pulling me to tell our story for weeks now .. we may have a so many injuries that are taking a very long time to heal but God was right next to us this whole journey !!! God bless you all and thank you for our great team that we have been told by many that our team is worth every dime we paid cause if I wasn’t how they behaved we would not be here to email that’s for sure …sorry such long email .."

When we first read this email, we were speechless.

The injuries Bill and Judy suffered were severe. By the grace of God, both survived a devastating accident that could have easily had a much different outcome. As horsemen, we understand that accidents happen in life. We cannot control every circumstance around us, especially when traveling on public roads.

What stood out most in this story was the behavior of Fire and Ice.

When chaos erupted around them, these horses did exactly what they were trained to do. They remained calm. They stayed in place. They did not panic. They did not bolt. They allowed first responders, neighbors, and friends to help Bill and Judy during one of the most difficult moments of their lives.

Many people look at a horse and focus on color, size, age, or pedigree. While those things matter, true value comes from training, disposition, and reliability. A dependable draft horse team is not just an investment in enjoyment—it can be an investment in safety.
