The Fourth of July is fun, but pets and wildlife often don’t feel the same way. We gathered some simple tips to help you keep your pet calm and prevent them from shooting off down the street after a Roman Candle! 🧨
If you are taking your pet outside, it is crucial to make sure to keep them on leash at ALL times. Keep your pet in a secure environment — even pasture fences need to be examined for security to keep horses and other farm animals contained.
Make sure ID tags are up-to-date and securely fastened on your pets (yes, even your cats!) Keep a current photo of your pets handy in the event they get lost.
Try out an anxiety vest, weighted blanket, or even anxiety medication with the help of your veterinarian.
Most of all — leave your pets AT HOME‼️
They probably don’t even want to go see the fireworks show, and would much rather lay in a pile of their favorite stuffed animals and blankets with the tv and lights on low!!
Have a fun and safe 4th of July! ❤️🤍💙

Are you prepared for foxtails?! ⚠️
Summer into late fall is the prime season for foxtails which can severely injure your pets. They look like bristly yellow heads that stand about 1-3in tall and are often found in dry, grassy areas, hiking trails, and even gardens. With attention and care you can prevent foxtail injuries, and know how to deal with them if they occur so you can keep your pets safe!
The seeds can burrow into skin, eyes, paw pads, and noses. Some signs that your pet has a foxtail injury include: head shaking, limping, snorting/sneezing, face pawing, excessive licking, redness and tenderness. 🌾

Early removal of foxtails is crucial‼️
Always check your pet after being outside. If you suspect a foxtail injury, your pet should be taken to a vet promptly. Some foxtails can be removed at home with tweezer if you can CLEARLY see the foxtail - be aware that attempting yourself can lead to an incomplete removal and cause a seed to burrow deeper.
We hope this can help you take steps to keeping your pet safe while still having fun in the sun! 🐾
