The Sulbasutras weren't just geometry manuals. The word "sulba" itself means cord or rope , and in ancient India, the rope was the primary measuring instrument. Entire altars were laid out using only pegs, cords, and human measurement.

What's extraordinary is that this same rope-based measurement tradition appears independently in ancient Egypt, where priests used knotted ropes divided into segments of 3, 4, and 5 to create right angles for temple construction.

Two civilisations, separated by thousands of kilometres, solving the same problem, with the same tool.

Here is a wall that should be in every school in the world. Fourteen figures. Fourteen fields. One civilisation. India did not borrow its knowledge from the ancient world. In most cases, India was the ancient world's source.

* Charaka built the foundations of medicine.
* Sushruta pioneered surgical technique.
* Baudhyana worked out geometry centuries before Pythagoras formalised it in Greece.
* Aryabhata calculated the approximate value of pi, theorised Earth's rotation, and mapped the cosmos, all before the sixth century CE.
* Nagarjuna mastered chemistry and metallurgy at a time when Europe had no framework for either discipline. Canakya wrote Arthashastra, a treatise on statecraft and economics so sharp and precise that modern political scientists still reference it.
* Visvakarma formalised the principles of architecture and civil engineering through Vastu Shastra.
* J.C. Bose, bridging the ancient and modern eras, gave the world plant physiology and radio wave detection. And was largely uncredited for it.

India did not just participate in the history of human knowledge. India authored enormous chapters of it.

Follow this page if India's intellectual history is something you want to explore deeply and consistently.

Tag someone below who needs to see this wall, because some people genuinely need this reminder.

Drop a 🙏 if you feel an immense sense of pride looking at these fourteen names

This is perhaps what ‘silent freedom’ feels like.

A Life Lived Without Armour by
Sarvajeet D Chandra

I walk with nothing in my hands,
no sword of pride,no shields of praise.
The masks I wore are slipping away,
revealing my raw, true, simple face.

I soar like an eagle, above the eye-line
desiring not to be seen, but to see.
A river, not chasing a distant ocean
but simply enjoying the journey.

The world is not a stage for show,
but a canvas where my colours flow.
The song of my soul lights my days,
in quiet, effortless, meaningful ways.

One Country. Many New Years. A Wish for 2026

India begins the year many times over. Each region marks its own new year: Ugadi, Gudi Padwa, Puthandu, Baisakhi, Parsi New Year, the fiscal new year, and more. Every regional new year carries its own rituals, its own food, its own clothes. These moments are intimate, quiet, and deliberate. They are days for family, for memory, for continuity.

January 1 stands apart. It belongs to no one and therefore to everyone. No deities, ancestors wait for it. It is the one new year that connects us across regions and beyond borders. It aligns India with the world and invites us into a shared global moment.

Unlike regional new years that turn inward, January first turns outward. It is about resolutions, public celebration, shared countdowns, and cake. It belongs to the collective present rather than inherited pasts.

In this Gregorian new year, I hope we remain a country that knows how to remember and how to imagine. This Indian duality is not a weakness. It is a design feature.

India thrives by holding contradictions in balance. As we step into 2026, I hope we celebrate this duality and make room for both. The social and the cultural. The global and the local. The public and the private.

This decade marks the beginning of the Indian century. As we enter our second Indian golden age, I wish you firm roots and fearless flight in 2026.

Buffet's Farewell Letter

Buffett ended the letter with a reflection on life, mistakes, and humanity.

"One perhaps self-serving observation. I’m happy to say I feel better about the second half of my life than the first. My advice: Don’t beat yourself up over past mistakes – learn at least a little from them and move on. It is never too late to improve.

Get the right heroes and copy them. You can start with Tom Murphy; he was the best. Remember Alfred Nobel, later of Nobel Prize fame, who – reportedly – read his own obituary that was mistakenly printed when his brother died and a newspaper got mixed up. He was horrified at what he read and realized he should change his behavior. Don’t count on a newsroom mix-up: Decide what you would like your obituary to say and live the life to deserve it.

Greatness does not come about through accumulating great amounts of money, great amounts of publicity or great power in government. When you help someone in any of thousands of ways, you help the world. Kindness is costless but also priceless. Whether you are religious or not, it’s hard to beat The Golden Rule as a guide to behavior. I write this as one who has been thoughtless countless times and made many mistakes but also became very lucky in learning from some wonderful friends how to behave better (still a long way from perfect, however). Keep in mind that the cleaning lady is as much a human being as the Chairman."

💬 Tag someone whose love feels like home.
The moment you realize your escape isn't a place, it's a person.

Feels like Home by Sarvajeet D Chandra

Your love lingers like morning mist,
hugging the trees at dawn,
neither rushing nor retreating,
simply staying,
so close I can almost breathe it in.
I ask myself,
why would I ever
wish to be anywhere else,
when your love is the air I live in?

Soulful Hindi Poetry by Sarvajeet
