If you're an experienced oil painter who wants to win major portrait competitions (not just enter them) I have a coaching program built for *exactly* that.

The Alla Prima Bootcamp is where technically skilled painters stop copying photos and start painting portraits that judges can't ignore.

And it works. My students are winning the competitions they enter, and my client Grace just won First Prize at the Portrait Society of America International Competition!

If you're ready to paint at that level, take the next step here: painterly.work/apbmay26

I only have 4 spots remaining, so if award-winning portraiture is your goal, don't miss out!

I'm making room for a brand new collection, which means over the next couple weeks I’ll be retiring a number of older available works. 🔥

Available work: www.chelsealang.com/
Studio Sale: www.chelsealang.com/studio-sale

A several paintings have already been claimed, so if there’s something you’ve had your eye on, now would be the time to collect it before it disappears for good!

I’m doing a little research because I want to make sure I’m creating the right kind of videos for you.

Which one best describes you right now?
(Be honest — there’s no “right” answer.)

Most oil painters don’t need different colors on your palette, better brushes, or more discipline.
They need to focus on different things depending on where they’re actually stuck.

I mapped this out in an email I'll send later today. It'll walk through what to do based on *exactly* where you're stuck right now.

At 5 PM Eastern today, I’m sending it to everyone on my email list. 🎉

If you’ve been oil painting seriously for years and still feel stuck, this is probably why:

Most painters plateau not because they lack skill, but because no one ever teaches the quieter lessons that actually compound over time.

So I’ve done that for you. I’ve gathered the 100 takeaways that took me from hobbyist to full-time, award-winning portrait painter -- things I wish I’d understood much earlier.

At 5 PM Eastern today, I’m sending them to everyone on my email list. 🎉

Okay, this is silly of me, but for months I saw a ton of you were watching YouTube more on Thursdays, and thought 'Oh, awesome -- I'll shift my videos to Thursdays!'

Then, as soon as I did' my cute little YT analytics graph changed, and said 'Are you crazy!? No one is online on Thursdays!'

So maybe I should just ask y'all 😂: what day would you LIKE to see me publish new videos?

One of the wildest things about putting videos on YouTube is that you can see the numbers on damn near EVERYTHING. I can tell what paintings y'all love, what messages resonate, what topics you find helpful. And that's super cool, and I'm grateful to have that insight so easy to access.

But as I was driving home tonight, I wondered if we aren't wildly off the mark. If we are now so focused on the numbers -- the *data* -- that we don't just bother to talk to people anymore.

It's a strange thing to imagine, because I can't picture 156,000 people all being in one place, let alone being able to talk with each and every one of you.

But I am an artist, after all. I want to do things because I feel called to it -- connected. Not because the numbers tell me I should.

So I want to ask, I know there's an ArtTube video out there for damn near everything. Name a technique you want to learn, and there's a video for it. But what's something you wish you could see more (or any) of? A topic you wish more painters would talk about? Or a topic I've touched on that you'd love to hear me explore more deeply?

What is your biggest oil painting challenge you wish you could solve?

🎨 Four years. Same composition. Two totally different outcomes.

The first version? Rejected by the most prestigious portrait competition in the world.
The second? 🏅 It won me the OPA Gold Medal.

What changed wasn’t the subject—it was how I painted.

Watch and I'll show you the exact shift that took my work from merely “accurate” to award-winning. And I’ll walk you through how to make that change in your own art.
