Daily Christian Affirmations

Do you sometimes struggle with self-doubt or self-criticism when you read passages like Luke 9:23, which says, "Then he said to them all: 'Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me?'"

It can be easy to get down on ourselves when we notice our sins and shortcomings - even to the point of wondering if we're really even following Christ at all.

I want to tell you, friend, that it's the work of our adversary, what the Bible calls our "accuser" that makes us feel this way.

Sure, there are times where we "like sheep have gone astray." Going astray doesn't mean that we're not following Jesus. In fact, just the opposite. If we weren't going astray, then we wouldn't be following him to begin with. Who goes astray from something if they're not following it in the first place?

Tell yourself, "I am a follower of Jesus." Don't doubt it. If this is a wake-up call, then let it be so. If this affirmation needs to be followed by a recognition and repentance from going astray...then amen. Then you can say, as Peter said in 1 Peter 2:25, "You were like lost sheep. But now you have come back to Him Who is your Shepherd and the One Who cares for your soul."

God bless, and have a great day following Jesus!

Hey folks, got a question for you...

If I were to create a podcast entitled "The Empowered Christian", how interested would you be in listening to that, on a scale of 1 - 10? (1=not at all, 10=what are you waiting for???) Thanks!

I'll be singing this song today! How about you? My prayer is for the world to find the peace of Jesus. As Jesus is quoted as saying in John 14:27, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." May people find peace and comfort in the promise of a new creation that began the day Jesus resurrected. Happy Easter! Happy Resurrection Day!

You can’t have a resurrection of any sort without first having a death and burial. Before the first Easter morning of Christ’s resurrection, he laid down his life on what we call “Good Friday” or “Crucifixion Friday”. This is a reality that we all have the opportunity to participate in on a daily basis: laying down our lives. This quote is taken from John 12:24, which says, “Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.”

Try saying this affirmation to God slowly three times.

On the in-breath say, “I am upheld and sustained…”

And then, on the out-breath, say, “by your word, by your command.”

You may then want to ask God, “What does this even mean?”

Does it mean that we are sustained by the scriptures? I don’t think so. The verse says He sustains “all things” by the word of his power. Humans are the only ones that read scriptures. I believe it means we are upheld and sustained simply because He said so. Each day, no matter what we think, say or do, his decree stands: You are to be upheld and sustained. What a loving God!

I was particularly inspired by reading the first chapter of the gospel according to John yesterday. I never realized how many ways John introduced Jesus just in the first chapter of his gospel. Amazing.
