How to raise glorious children? Plutarch’s view!
#Plutarch was an ancient Greek intellectual (born 46 AD). His work influenced the modern world and, in particular, respectable personas, such as #Goethe, #Shakespeare , #Rousseau , #Napoleon etc. Let’s see some basic points of his work ‘’ΠΕΡΙ ΠΑΙΔΩΝ ΑΓΩΓΗΣ’’ = ‘’Regarding Children’s Training-Education’’. (🧐The word ΑΓΩΓΗ comes from the verb ΑΓΩ = to lead, to guide.
1️⃣ Both parents need to be good persons and to follow a proper lifestyle. Moreover, father should not be drunk during sex, otherwise his children will be prone to alcohol!😁
2️⃣ 3 keys: Physical disposition (φύσις), Learning (λόγος), Practice (ἔθος). Children need to apply all of them, because:
🤸♂️ physical disposition is blind without learning,
📚 learning is deficient without practice and
🤹♀️ practice is imperfect without the above.
3️⃣ Mother should be the one who breastfeeds and raises her children in order to give them true love❤️.
4️⃣ Parent should find a proper teacher (παιδαγωγός) who is not slave or bad person or devious. Teacher needs to be unexceptionable with an impeccable lifestyle. Flatterers should be avoided as they are dishonest.
5️⃣ Philosophy should be on top of children’s education.
❗️ Plutarch’s main Conclusion! Parents’ main priority is the provision of a proper education. Any efforts to offer other goods to their children are just insignificant and worthless. Significant and legal education will help children to become glorious, happy and important adults.
