Okay It's horribly worded movie review time. Spoilers ahead, if you haven't seen Supergirl yet and plan to, then don't read this
I was initially weary because of the awful advertising for this movie, but after watching it, I think Supergirl was well written. They captured Kara's edginess perfectly, and she didn't feel like the other "strong, independent woman" characters we usually see in film and TV that are pretty much ripoffs of Black Widow (no diss to Black Widow, I'm just saying that hers is a pretty common archetype.) While watching the movie, I did have one critique about Lobo dropping in and screwing everything up (I thought it was stupid), but as the movie progressed from there, I realized it was a unique and thoughtful storytelling decision! I feel like writers tend to use Some Guy to save the day whether he knows the plan or not and it always somehow works out, so I LOVEEE the fact that they let him ruin everything a little bit... Yes yes give me more of that please..... + I love that they had Kara kill Krem instead of letting Ruthye do it That is Beautiful. "Your life will be your revenge"???I'm man enough to admit I shed a tear at that. The core message of the movie was delivered so perfectly and just subtly enough that those who need to hear it will hear it, I'm impressed 🥹 My only real critique is about the ending, it was a bit weak, but it's a shoe in the door for the start of the next movie so I will take it 🔥
