Wars of the Ring
For the Battle of Five Armies, how much context would you like before the tactical analysis begins?

Wars of the Ring
I found this text online, presented as the testimony of a British soldier at Waterloo (clearly a modern reimagining, but seems to be inspired by fragments of real testimonies). Anyway, it made me think about the charge of the Rohirrim from Mordor’s perspective. Enjoy it:
A charge of cuirassiers had a hypnotic effect…
We were expecting a French infantry assault…
our lines were steady and calm…
Suddenly I saw our sergeant inspecting the ranks… he stopped…
I could not understand why… then I felt a tremor in my legs…
and then the ground began to rumble and move beneath us.
I was seized with anxiety… my neighbour, a veteran, Private Millan, dropped his pipe upon the ground… I seemed to see a kind of light upon his brow…
and then, before us, was a cavalry charge, shining in the sunlight.
The helmets, sabres and cuirasses glittered in the sun… and then steel blades broke into our red coats!
So long as one was not in the square formation, it was a magnificent spectacle… Amidst the noise of battle, one could hear everywhere the cries and songs of the charging horsemen.

Currently working on the next analysis: The Battle of the Five Armies.
This one is a bit different — five forces, one battlefield, and a fight where positioning and timing change everything.
A teaser is coming soon.

Wars of the Ring
The final part is finally coming.
The next episode on the channel will cover the Battle of the Pelennor Fields — this time from Sauron’s strategic perspective.
We’ll break down how his army should have been deployed on the battlefield and examine two key military concepts: tactical deployment and the oblique order.
Part 2 came out a while ago, but the conclusion of the series is now on its way.
Stay tuned.

Wars of the Ring
Welcome, and thank you for joining the channel.
📜 This post is simply a short introduction to what this project is about.
This channel is dedicated to exploring the military dimension of The Lord of the Rings. Here, we rely strictly on Tolkien’s writings — without deviation or personal reinterpretation. The events are considered exactly as Tolkien narrated them, but examined through the lens of ancient military history.
🛡️ This reading of the War of the Ring becomes an opportunity to explore tactical and strategic concepts, which in turn help us better understand what a conflict like the one imagined by Tolkien might truly have looked like.
Welcome aboard.

Wars of the Ring
First subscribers — the journey begins :
A small milestone, but one that means a lot.
Thank you to everyone who watched, commented, or shared the first video — your support gives meaning to this project.
Later this month, the next major release will dive into Sauron’s campaign on his southern frontline, exploring two new strategic and tactical notions.
In the meantime, a new playlist presenting a geo-strategic overview of Middle-earth’s factions will be published next Friday (a short gap to allow the channel to breathe and grow around this very first video).
The goal remains the same: to explore Tolkien’s Middle-earth through its strategies, battles, and political dynamics — step by step, text by text.
Thank you again for being here at the very beginning.
Stay tuned — the story is just beginning.
