I've spent just over a decade in the digital marketing space, building campaigns that matter for companies and brands. Follow me for tips and tricks for running Google and Meta ads.
BIG MARCH 2026 UPDATE: If you're managing budgets for any business, you need to see this video to ensure Google Ads DOESN'T Spend more than you budgeted.
Running profitable Google Ads campaigns but can't scale? Here's why....
You're not alone if you've hit that ceiling...
There are 3 common reasons why businesses struggle to scale their Google Ads. And the solutions? They're not what you'd expect.
1. You might be inadvertently restricting yourself. 2. Google's data? It's not telling you the whole story. 3. More budget doesn't always mean more results.
Each of these has a fix. But here's the kicker:
The real solution isn't just about tweaking your ads.
It's about understanding the hidden mechanics behind Google's algorithm. The stuff most marketers overlook.
Because here's the truth:
Scaling isn't just about spending more. Google Ads is less about what your competitors are doing and more about how you are bidding efficiently within Google Ads. It's about spending smarter and leveraging Google Ads for scale.
And sometimes, the path to growth is counterintuitive. And the journey to scale is not the same for every business.
You might need to "feed" your campaigns differently. Or look beyond Google's dashboard for the real picture. Or realize that patience isn't just a virtue—it's a strategy.
But I won't give away all the secrets here.
Want to break through that scaling ceiling? Ready to scale?
Let's chat.

I've helped businesses not just maintain profitability as they scale, but amplify it.
Because in the world of Google Ads, sometimes the biggest gains come from the most unexpected places.
John Moran's approach revolutionized the industry. But there's a catch...
Maximize Clicks is might be hurting your campaigns.
Here's the problem:
→ One day, Maximize Clicks crushes it → The next, your broad campaign takes the lead
It's a rollercoaster that's costing you conversions.
But I've cracked the code. Here's how to fix it:
1️⃣ Flip the script on Maximize Clicks (More on this in the Comments) 2️⃣ Optimized for high-intent keywords 3️⃣ Leverage my automated negative keyword script to keep the campaign extremely focused.
The results?
• 187% increase in conversions • CPA dropped from $656 to $81 in the Feeder Campaign • The ROAS shot up to 394% which was a 187% increase & the business owner said that they've never hit these revenue targets in 5 Years!

I was on a consultation call with a client who had failing campaigns, here’s what happened… 🚨
I asked, “how did you choose these keywords?” 🤔
They said, “I used SEMRush, looked up my competitors, and used all of their keywords.” 😳
I was floored… and here’s why… 🤯
Just because your competitors are bidding on keywords DOES NOT MEAN IT’S PROFITABLE. ❌
You also have no context as to what bidding strategies they are using. 🕵️♂️
I browsed the web to see if anyone was talking about in-depth proper keyword research, and while there are some resources that are good, ALL of them are missing TWO FOUNDATIONAL steps to proper keyword research. 🔑🔍
These steps are behind paywalls and aren’t being shared freely. 💸
And when you hear them, you’re gonna kick yourself for skipping these steps. 😬
I not only talk about it but conduct keyword research live for a real client. 🎥✨
There's been a lot of talk around whether or not you should use "hacks" in Google Ads. Great folks like @AaronYoungGoogleAds say that you shouldn't and that you should follow standard processes. I have tremendous respect for Aaron! He's really good with @GoogleAds and honestly he breaks down the complexities of Google Ads in simple terms better than anyone I know!
That being said, we have different views on hacking versus not hacking. I say do it and Aaron says it's better to play it safe and work with Google versus against it. I think it's a great point.
I recorded my longer and unfiltered response to his video on the his video on this strategy and overall views, but as a business and marketer I think we need to think about the following things:
You have to be willing to break things in order to become the best.
No I'm not in favor of playing with machinery you don’t know how to handle. You could cut off your hand or in this case burn a ton of budget.
So learn the machine. Become an expert on how the machine works. Dream about the machine, always question what is or isn’t possible. That’s how you get ahead.
You don’t grow by playing it safe. You don’t gain a competitive advantage by doing what everyone else is doing.
You don’t get better at PPC Ads, unless you break it and learn from it.
I think if you are trying to grow in PPC, I think we need to do better than just doing what everyone else is doing.
I also think if you want to become the best at Google Ads and driving traffic you have to be willing to test what no one thought was possible.
So, if your looking to grow, if you are looking to go beyond what we thought was possible, then let's work towards that together. The DOJ case against Google made it clear that they have been inflating CPC's. We can see this in our accounts. Now, it's time for us to do what is best for our businesses and clients so that they win more business than ever before.
What do you think?
Should we follow standard practices or should continue experimenting? Let me know in the comments below!

Smart Bidding Isn’t Targeting Keywords Anymore.
(But Most Advertisers Haven’t Caught On Yet)
A client asked me last week:
“Why is my campaign converting on completely irrelevant search terms?”
He thought the campaign was broken.
But what I showed him completely changed how he runs Google Ads.
Imagine you’re selling accounting software…
And Google’s converting on “purple elephant socks.”
Sounds insane, right?
But if you’re using Smart Bidding (Target ROAS or CPA)?
That’s not a mistake, it’s how the algorithm is designed to work.
Google is tracking users across their entire journey, not just their latest search.
So when your ideal customer searches something weird?
Google still knows it’s them, and shows them your ad.
Here’s the rule of thumb I gave my client:
🎯 Smart Bidding = user targeting → Weird terms? Fine.
📍 Manual CPC = keyword targeting → Weird terms? Wasted spend.
That one distinction saved him thousands.
🎥 I broke that down in a live audit + strategy call in the video below:

If you run Google Ads, you know the @ThePaidSearchPodcast.
It’s basically required listening for anyone serious about PPC.
So when Chris Shaefer invited me on the show to talk about his favorite Google Ads script, I was genuinely honored.
What made this even more interesting?
Chris has never used scripts before and openly admits he’s not a big fan of scripts.
In this episode, we talk about how I walked him step-by-step through his first-ever script install...
It led to my script that I co-created with Flowboost, 🤙🏼 Floris, & Arjan being his favorite.
We talked honestly about:
How simple (or challenging) it really is to set up.
His real-world results with the Modified Broad Match Script.
Exactly what Chris liked and didn’t like about using scripts to automate keyword management.
If you’re curious to see how it went... and maybe even install your first Google Ads script yourself...you have to check this out...
