Japan explained by a normal guy. No filters, no "aesthetic" influencers, and no 25-year-olds who never get tired. Just a middle-aged American who cusses a bit & remembers exactly what it’s like to be overwhelmed by Japan.
Most travel channels make Japan look like a flawless highlight reel. I’m here for the rest of us. I walk slow, I get out of breath on inclines, & I’m usually struggling for survival by midday. I’m not fluent, I’m not a local, and I’m definitely not pretending this is effortless.
I’ve seen firsthand what confuses people and what ruins trips before they even start. If you’re an older traveler who finds Japan intimidating or "too complicated," you’re in the right place. I landed in Japan yesterday and spent my first night of 86 nights in a capsule hotel. I've got about 3 or 4 videos to shoot over the next 6 days so soon I'll start posting regular Japan videos. I'm looking to post 2-3 per week. Right now I'm working on a capsule hotel video which is just one of 3 I'm doing at the same time. I did my first live this morning mostly just to see if it was up and make sure it was working. Honestly was surprised to see 35 people join it in seconds ... had I thought I'd get so many I would have used a gimble and had a plan lol... for those who tuned in for a few minutes, thanks and sorry it was so shit 😆. I don't blame you for bailing out it was pitch black and shaky and I really didn't have anything to discuss so ... yeah it was junk. Future lives will not be such poor quality I promise. I won't go live unless I've got something worth saying or seeing ... and a gimble.
So anyhow, look forward to the videos that will be dropping in the next week. I'm working hard on getting the good shots so editing won't be a nightmare (I hope). Thanks for your support.

🚨 47 PREFECTURE CHALLENGE — OFFICIAL RULES (LOCKED) 🚨
I’ve officially locked the system for my 47 Prefecture Challenge.
Same rules. Same scoring. Every prefecture. No improvising.
Here’s how every episode works 👇
🎌 EPISODE FORMAT (≈25-35 MIN TOTAL)
1️⃣ Unique Experience (~15-20 min)
One thing you can only experience in that prefecture.
No repeats. No substitutes.
2️⃣ Signature Dish (~5-10 min)
I eat the prefecture’s most iconic dish in that prefecture and score it using a strict 100-point system.
3️⃣ Prefecture Scoring (~3-5 min)
The total combined score of that prefecture based on the Experience, the Dish, and the Travelability.
🥢 SIGNATURE DISH SCORING (100 POINTS TOTAL)
🥢 Taste — 50 pts
• Flavor
• Texture
• Balance
• Would I finish it if no one was watching?
📖 Story — 30 pts
• Why does this dish exist?
• History, hardship, accidents, weird human moments
• A bad meal with a great story can still score high
📍 Accessibility — 20 pts (FOOD ONLY)
• Only available here = 20
• Available in major cities = 10
• Mass-produced nationwide = 0
⚠️ Accessibility is about food rarity, NOT travel difficulty.
🧭 TRAVELABILITY SCORE (SEPARATE SYSTEM)
Travelability = /10
This rates how easy it is for a first-time traveler to reach the prefecture.
🚅 Shinkansen / major rail hub — 10
🚆 Train + local train — 8.5
🚌 Train + bus — 7.5
🚌 Bus only — 5
🚌 + 🚕 Bus + taxi — 2.5
🚗 Car or bike only — 0
🏞 OVERALL PREFECTURE SCORE (OUT OF 100)
This is the final “worth it” score, calculated — not vibes.
• Experience — 40 pts
Beauty, fun, atmosphere, impact — all interchangeable.
• Food — 30 pts
Calculated from the dish score.
• Travelability — 30 pts
Calculated from the /10 travel score.
Formula:
Experience (40) + Food (30) + Travelability (30) = Total /100
Beautiful places can score low.
Boring places can score high.
I’m not sugarcoating it.

No resets. No skipping.

I have 3 new videos that I am working on ... 2 are challenges and 1 is a comparison between Japan and the USA ... not a vs ... a comparison. Stay tuned for these 3 you will love them I am sure of it. One of them is totally insane for me, I'm an introvert, why did I even do it? I am still trying to forget the trauma :). Over the next few weeks, I’m going to start posting a series that looks at everyday life in America and Japan — side by side.
Not the tourist stuff you see with most creators.
Just the normal, boring, everyday moments… and how different they feel depending on where you are. Things like a visit to the grocery store or a quick stop at a convenience store. Maybe I will do a contrast on Movie Theatres in America vs Japan. How does travel in the US compare to travel in Japan? Lets find out together.
I’ll be filming in the U.S. first, then continuing the same videos in Japan so you can see the contrast for yourself.
If you’ve ever wondered why or how Japan might feel different — even when nothing special is happening — this will probably make sense.
