A good reminder to always carry bear spray and bear bells when exploring this area.
On the walk back to the van after our wild onsen adventure, we came across this curious little bear. As cute as they are, if there’s a cub nearby, the mother usually isn’t far away.

Sharing your life online can be a little scary sometimes.
Recently I received a comment like this. The funny thing is that before making videos about renovating an old Japanese house, almost all of my content was about snowboarding, surfing, and exploring Japan with my Japanese friends (many of whom have tattoos too!).
Lately there has been a lot of negative news about foreigners in Japan, and with the way social media algorithms work, it’s surprisingly easy for people to start feeling fearful or angry about groups of people they have never actually met.
What this comment doesn’t show is the hundreds of positive comments, kind messages, and supportive people who watch these videos. The vast majority of people—Japanese and non-Japanese alike—have been incredibly welcoming and encouraging.
It’s a good reminder that the loudest voices are not always the majority. I’ll keep sharing my life, my adventures, and my experiences in Japan, and I’ll keep focusing on the good people along the way.

Big plans ahead! 🚀
I’m about to head off on an exciting trip around Japan, shooting a trail running event and giving you all a behind-the-scenes look at life as a photographer in Japan! After that, I’ll be spending a month in Thailand, then off to New Zealand for another event shoot, and finally some yoga and surf in Bali before the winter season kicks in.
