2025 has been a tough year for trans and non-binary people. We’ve seen attacks on rights, legislation actively calling for exclusion, and the daily weight of living in a world that isn’t always welcoming.
Even with all that, we’ve seen so many people showing up - learning, listening, advocating and creating space for change. It’s a reminder that while the challenges ahead in 2026 are real, we are not facing them alone.

This #FeelGoodFriday, we’re cheering for Huong Giang, who made history as the first Asian transgender woman to compete in the Miss Universe 2025 contest. Her appearance on the global stage was a significant moment and one worth celebrating!
During the showcase, Huong Giang chose to wear a white áo dài, a traditional Vietnamese garment that, among many others, is often worn by schoolgirls. For her, this was deeply meaningful - she wasn’t able to wear it during her own school years, and stepping onto the Miss Universe stage while wearing it became a powerful homecoming. It was a way to honour her roots, her culture, and the dreams she once had as a young girl.
Huong Giang reflected, “The dream may come late, but it arrives in the most beautiful way.” Her journey reminds us that even when barriers delay our dreams, perseverance, courage and authenticity can transform them into moments of joy, inspiration and change.

Single-gender spaces can offer safety and connection, but for many organizations, it’s not always clear how to make these spaces inclusive of trans and non-binary people while staying true to their purpose.

It’s #FeelGoodFriday, and today we’re celebrating a historic win for transgender rights in Africa!
A Kenyan court has ordered the government to pass legislation protecting transgender people, the first time a Kenyan court has explicitly directed the state to create legal protections for trans people.
The decision comes after a trans woman’s rights to dignity, privacy, and freedom from inhuman and degrading treatment were violated, shining a light on decades of legal invisibility and discrimination. The court’s ruling now calls on the government to close those gaps and ensure transgender people are recognized and protected.
As Lolyne Onger from the queer rights charity Jinsiangu explains, if implemented, this legislation could guarantee legal recognition of gender identity, protections against discrimination in employment, housing, healthcare, and education, and fair access to public services.
This ruling is a major step toward equality and has the potential to transform the lives of transgender people across Kenya and beyond.
