Out of those, 18 weren't counted (invading the same person twice, host crossing the fog gate, etc.), leaving me with 43 unique interactions.
Here's what I found:
- Most common build: STR with 17 players (including 1 STR/INT and 2 STR/FTH) + 9 of them were using an UGS - Most common weapon type: UGS with 10 players (5 of them using the Greatsword) - Most common weapon: Ice Rapier with 6 players (one paired with a Warped Sword) - 3 pure casters - 17 RB spammers (melee and/or magic), with one player doing both - 3 players using Dark Weapon (all rapier users, including the Ice Rapier + Warped - Sword player) - 3 powerstancing (2 katanas, 1 UGS) - 2 using Sunlight Blade (Red Iron Twinblade and Curved Dragon Greatsword) - 2 backstab fishers - 2 full Havel's with an UGS - 1 hacker with infinite HP
Platform: PC Date: 07.05.2026
The remaining players were using a wider variety of weapons: Red Iron Twinblade (3), Greatswords (4), Curved Greatswords (3), Katanas (3), Greathammers (3), Casters (3), Straight Swords (1), Spears (1), Curved Swords (1), and Hammers (1).
In today's session (about 1 hour and 30 minutes), I went through 37 online interactions: 28 invasions and 10 Red Arena matches. As with yesterday, I'm excluding 9 encounters because they were repeat opponents, the host died before I could reach them, or they crossed a fog gate immediately.
That leaves 28 unique players for today's analysis.
Results: - 12 were using Ultra Greatswords: + 3 Ivory King's Ultra Greatswords + 3 Greatswords + 2 Zweihanders + 2 Fume Ultra Greatswords - 8 were using rapiers: + 7 Ice Rapiers + 1 standard Rapier - 9 relied heavily on R1 spam or spell spam: + 4 were using UGSs + 2 were using the Ice Rapier - 4 were using Dark Weapon. - 4 appeared to be playing from Asia (based on extremely high latency and their Steam profiles). - 2 were cheating: + 1 invader with infinite HP. + 1 Arena player at max level with infinite poise, Estus usage during the match, and very high latency (of course...). - 1 Arena player somehow managed to combine Ice Rapier, Dark Weapon, Engraved Gauntlets, R1 spam, and over 6,000 ms ping... quite the achievement. - 8 were running Strength builds (pure STR or STR hybrids with FTH, INT, or HEX). - 6 were running Dexterity builds (pure DEX or DEX hybrids with FTH, INT, or HEX). - 5 were SL200+. - 4 appeared to be running quality builds. - 2 were SL300+. - 1 was max level (the same Arena player who was cheating).
Platform: PC Date: 07.03.2026
No real surprises today either. The Ice Rapier continues to dominate, Ultra Greatswords are everywhere, and the amount of passive or spam-oriented playstyles remains pretty consistent. I'll keep collecting data over the next few sessions to see if these trends hold up with a larger sample size.
I'm currently collecting data from my online PvP encounters (both invasions and being invaded). For each player I meet, I record information about their build, weapon choice, and other notable details, such as whether they use magic, buffs, or specific pieces of equipment.
During the last hour, I interacted with around 50 players in total, including 3 invasions into my own world. Out of those, 19 players were excluded from the analysis because either the host died before I could reach them, or they were repeat encounters (sometimes the second or even third time I'd matched with the same player).
Among the remaining 31 unique players, I observed the following:
- 11 appeared to be running quality builds (based on their equipment and weapons). - 7 were using the Ice Rapier (this includes every invader I encountered), making it the most common weapon in this sample. - 6 relied heavily on R1 spam or spell spam: + 3 were using the Ice Rapier. + 3 were primarily casting sorceries or hexes. - 4 were using weapon buffs, self-buffs, or both. - 2 were wearing full Havel's. - 2 were using Engraved Gauntlets. - 2 were cheating with infinite HP.
Platform: PC Date: 07.02.2026
I'll most likely continue collecting this kind of data from now on. I think it's fascinating to see how people approach Dark Souls II nowadays and how the meta has evolved over the years.
