Zion's Hope

Purim is the joyful celebration of God’s hidden hand at work in history — a powerful reminder that even when He seems unseen, He is never absent.

The story unfolds in the Book of Book of Esther, during the reign of King Ahasuerus of Persia. A Jewish woman named Esther is raised to the position of queen, though her Jewish identity is not initially known.

Meanwhile, a wicked official named Haman plots to annihilate the Jewish people throughout the empire. When Esther’s cousin Mordecai learns of the decree, he challenges her with the timeless words:

“Who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” Esther 4:14

Risking her life, Esther approaches the king uninvited. Through wisdom, courage, fasting, and divine providence, the plot is exposed. Haman’s scheme collapses, and the very day intended for destruction becomes a day of deliverance and victory.

Purim is a celebration of:

• The preservation of the Jewish people
• The faithfulness of God to His covenant promises
• The great reversal — sorrow turned into joy

Though the name of God is not mentioned in Esther, His sovereignty is written between every line. What appeared to be coincidence was providence. What looked like impending destruction became triumph.

As we remember this story, we are reminded that the same faithful God who preserved His people then continues to watch over Israel and accomplish His purposes today.
