It appears many other YouTubers are currently making videos on a Lego scandal. Being a channel that mostly deals in things that happened a hundred years ago or more, you would think I would be unable to take part in this trend. But that is not the case!
Here’s a newspaper story from the Americus Times-Recorder July 22, 1913 about Mr. F. W. Lego divorcing his wife. Apparently, he felt she was born with a silver spoon in her mouth and he was unwilling to keep it there.
Why did this simple story of an unhappy marriage make it into a newspaper? I’ve no idea. But safe to say, even 100 years ago, people were clamouring for Lego drama.
Also, whilst I’ve got you here, check out my latest YouTube video if you haven’t already. It features the story of how Neville Chamberlain’s dad paid an obscene amount of money for a flower growing out of a human skull. And also Pokémon.
In 1889, a mysterious magnate paid to place an ad in a Minnesota newspaper. In it, he announced he was willing to pay $50,000 (approx $1.8m in today’s money) to the woman who would marry him within the next 60 days.
This set off a bizarre chain of events with local journalists, potential suitors and curious rubberneckers all eager to find out more about the well-to-do bachelor. When his identity was eventually revealed, the public was left stunned.
If this sounds like a story you’d like to hear more of, check out my new video where I popped on my researcher hat and vaulted into a 137-year-old newspaper-lined rabbit hole.
YouTube didn’t fancy showing this video to too many people, so I would appreciate you giving it a watch!
Hey folks! I’ve got a new video about a few people from the past who claimed they had the power to produce rain. If you like stories about witches, con men and odd science history, I think you’ll enjoy it!
YouTube hasn’t shown it to many people yet, so I thought I'd make a post about it to see if I can reach a few more feeds.
August 13th is International Wolf Day. If you've ever wondered how the wolf got the moniker 'big bad' then I've got just the video for you https://youtu.be/sbsntSzWKUM
